Hi everyone. Does anyone have a recommendation for a fantastic vegan bakery in San Francisco? Need an awesome chocolate cake for a dinner party. Thanks so much!

There is no vegan bakery in San Francisco. There are vegan bakers in the Bay Area and there are vegan cakes in the refrigerated cases of places like Rainbow and Whole Foods. • Alicia Smiley will be tagged a bunch in this post. • Timeless on Piedmont will get tagged too. • Melisser Elliott & Fina Lina are both bakers that may or may not be able to help (Fina just had a baby and Melisser is sans cooking kitchen at the moment.) • Gracias Madre and Millennium both can make cakes to order • Golden Era makes a variety of cakes for their Civic Center restaurant so you could try a slice or two there and order a whole one if you like their offerings. • My partner did buy himself a new vegan cake from Just Desserts when he found it in the fridge at Rainbow last week. It was very, very chocolatey and too rich for more than one small slice at a time. Perhaps Just Desserts makes other vegan cakes. • I'm personally not a fan of either the Black China or Sugar Plum cakes that Rainbow also offers.

Sweet Inspirations on Market in the Castro has a good German chocolate cake you can special order, along with a couple other ones. They usually have slices in house if you want to try it first.

Mike Strauss is an amazing caterer Jocelyn Thompson . He even grows his own peppers and dries them for his spices and rubs! Not sure of a bakery.

I've used Miraglia Catering for every corporate event I've done since 2007 and they did an incredible job for my wedding in April. If you DM your email, I'll send you their info (and an intro, if you'd like).

Try Milk and Honey catering, they do a lot of the specialty dietary restriction stuff.

If you're in Farmington, I highly recommend Mrs. Maddox at 10 and Orchard.

Oh and I have to plug Zingerman's Bakehouse which is of course locally owned and pays all workers a living wage. They also are the tastiest thing in town although of course not the cheapest, nor are they very close to your house but still. And if I am throwing out Ann Arbor suggestions Decadent Delight is also amazing and literally saved a wedding cake on the day of the wedding.
