Coffee Scene in San Francisco Hey y'all
I'll be moving to San Francisco this summer and will be looking for a coffee job and was wondering if anyone had recommendations...

[Wage transparency doc](https://www.inquirer.com/business/barista-wages-spreadsheet-coffee-shop-tips-transparency-20191009.html?outputType=amp) You should check out this article. People from the coffee industry are sharing wage and work info from different cities. There’s one for the Bay Area too and it might give you some insight.

My Friend Josh over at St. Franks is one of the nicest people I've ever met. I think he is the trainer over there.
People throw mad shade on Blue Bottle but on the cafe level they hire really dope people and they seem to stick around for a long time. But yeah nestle... cant get away from that.
If you don't mind commuting a bit, the CoRo in Berkeley has a cafe and is a cool way to get connected with a different side of the industry. Also, Timeless in Oakland/Berkeley is a vegan cafe and they are really rad, the owner is super kind, and it seems like low employee turn around.
Never been to the Verve in SF but I've had the pleasure of meeting Colby and Ryan (founded Verve). Great guys, so if the culture comes from the top down I'd say that's a pretty good bet.
Hope this helps and welcome home;P

If you can sacrifice your morals, then also look into Peets and Starbucks. There are dozens of their shops in SF, and hopefully one or more are hiring.

I don’t see [Peerless](https://www.peerlesscoffee.com) mentioned here much but they’re widely distributed in the area. They have roasting, cafe, and an office so depending on what you’re looking for, they might have an opening.

Can't offer any advice job-wise but Sightglass is by far my favorite for both roaster and shop. My Recs: 1. Sightglass - Amazing. By far my favorite. Must see location and amazing coffee 2. Ritual - Great coffee, nice location in Hayes Valley by an open park 3. St Frank Coffee - Near you. Good coffee, nice shop, and some decent pastries 4. Philz - Good coffee, lots of options throughout the Bay Area 5. Linea - Good coffee, centrally located in Mission (cool district to walk around) 6. Four Barrel - Decent. Has some Sexual Harassment issues, so avoid if you want to support ethical businesses. 7. Blue Bottle - Use to be good before Nestle takeover
Avoid blue bottle if you want to actually enjoy work, very corporate and also owned by nestle. Sightglass too apparently, my buddy managed a store and just quit because management is getting shitty. The company is looking to expand like blue bottle at the cost of a good work environment. Ive also heard Equator middle management is trash so probably also a no go (coffee isnt even that good.) Andytown is always a cool shop and seems to be a great place to work (they have 3 locations i think, all in the Sunset) Wrecking Ball is great and is owned by a great guy by the name of Nick Cho. Four Barrel is a no go, and i also heard Ritual might be in some hot water too (not too many specifics yet but just word of mouth.) St Frank’s seems dope but idk too much about their work environment or hiring practices. Mazarine is a cool shop that is a multiroaster and also very busy (Market st) if you want a fast paced shop and probably very good tips check them out. There’s definitely more that im forgetting

Currently a barista at Peets in FiDi but I do love the espresso at my girlfriend’s cafe, Mazarine on Market street. She’s also a barista and there’s no bias Peets would recommend to for employment but you’ll be on register for a 2 months at $15 and earn a dollar more when you’re a barista and then “expert” barista

Verve, Wrecking Ball. Though for a job you'd probably have luck looking into Blue Bottle considering how large they are
