I had the same problem. I finally came across this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009EEMH3Q/ This is similar to cotton mattresses that we get in India. It's thinner than usual mattresses and firmer.

Kohls sells memory foam mattress toppers. Got mine about 4 years ago. It's a bit discolored, (starts off that tan kinda foam color, then gets darker over time, but you never see it anyways) but it has made my older 10 year mattress the most comfortable thing ever. (I'll be getting a new mattress in a year or two, just can't afford the new one right now)
