My wife and I are looking for suggestions: what's a nice "souvenir of Canada" to give to a host in Italy? It is for the chef of a Tuscan restaurant who is going to treat...

Just got a suggestion from a chef friend: get him one of martin picards cookbooks! Canadiana cookbook...Martin Picard has 2 restaurants in Quebec. The Sugar Shack book was a huge best seller: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/2980949868/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1405449552&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40

Canadian Coins and money, I always like some sample of foreign currency. Coin shops should have some interesting stuff. Show them what a loonie is. The gold and silver coins are all "maple leaf" branded as well as date stamped, to mark the year of the occasion. You have a choice of values. A nice gift likely to be kept. well after food is gone.
Stephanie P. replied:
You can get Maple Syrup in Italy imported from Canada or as I like to call it "liquid gold".. I'd say something from the Hudson's Bay company. Those stripes are distinctive, really nice and soooo Canadian. Or a well made Canadian flag, a hockey puck with your favourite team on it, a CD of Canadian songs, a team jersey, certain types of Colgate are 10€ a tube here, Chapstick isn't sold here (I know the last two are strange).. FYI watch out if you are travelling with liquor/ice wine bought at the airport (in Canada) when you have a connecting flight. Some bunk rule, that I've never heard of, got my gift of ice wine confiscated in Rome's airport.. You know they cracked those bottles open as soon as they took them from me. Who's heard of that rule?
Ros B. replied:
Maple Syrup hands down particularly if you know the sugarbush it comes from. Lasts a long time if refrigerated, and is pretty tasty in or on just about anything. A chef would know what to do with it. It's likely not as reasonably priced there as it is here.
Sarah R. replied:
Canadian Pure Maple Syrup
Dave R. replied:
Now, now Pat Carter. Are you tossing in your pitchfork and torch? Lol
Karen S. replied:
Maple butter (more bang for the buck, in terms of sweet to weight ratio). Smoked salmon from BC. Ice Wine from Niagara

Nirvana and Avani would be my top 2 that I've tried. There are a few buffets (not Tandoori Flame) that have been recommended to me but I've yet to try them.

Veg or non veg? My fave non veg/non UP indian resto is saravana bhavan. UP food, maybe sanjeev kapoor’s kazana? Although I think that’s punjabi/up. Khazana is a bit pricey but tbeir 24 hour daal is certainly worth it. Punjabi food- I’m Pakistani so I’ll recommend a pakistani resto. Bbq tonite is Excellent. If you want fusion/trendy there’s Laari Adda which serves pakistani punjabi truck stop food plus fusion food (get the chaat, get the karak chai pls for the love of all that is holy skip the pizza naan and the chocolate naan)

There's a new place at Hurontario and Derry called Spice Culture, it was really good. I don't eat at a lot of Indian restaurants but my colleagues that do seemed to think it was pretty good too (Christmas lunch). The non veg was especially flavourful, but everything was good.

Hello everyone,
Looking for some help. I am trying to find a restaurant to take my bf to for his bday next Wednesday. I'm looking for somewhere we haven't been, that...
Jaime P. replied:
Fonda Lola at Queen and Shaw is great. It's Mexican. ..great margaritas, AMAZING hand-held caesar salads, delicious features....I've never been disappointed with anything. The restaurant is casual but the food is amazing. Definitely have to make a reservation though!
Bheshini N. replied:
Hanmoto - it is a japenese izayaka. It is different, casual and has delicious food (non seafood options too). Also most of the restuarants on Ossington are amazing. Foxley has tapas.. with a great many options so you can definitely avoid the fish and seafood. i have to agree with Hawker bar... it is a take on Singaporean/Malaysian food and they do it justice. Bang bang is right down the st for yummy ice cream sandwiches for dessert. Hope you guys have a great time! Take a look at this list. A few foodies have already mentioned some of the restuarants on here. :) http://www.torontolife.com/daily-dish/restaurants-dish/2015/03/20/best-new-toronto-restaurants-2015/slide/best-new-restaurants-2015-20/
