adopted my 4 month spaniel/lab pup last sept from http://ruffhouserescue.com/ and highly recommend them. They rescue dogs from the south and foster them in homes while they are brought to health. They come tagged and spaded with a month of health insurance. Could not have asked for a better pup :-) Good luck..

PLEASE rescue - there are loads of purebred rescues and milldogrescue.org pulls dogs used for breeding in horrific puppy mills and they often have litters of puppies for adoption. You can also try animalhavenshelter.org. As for vets, my vet is in Tribeca, but you don't find one closer, let me know and I'm happy to connect you. :)

I've used Baldwin Harbor Animal hospital for over 23 ys. Never a bad experience. They really care and don't do unnecessary tests. Dr. Dattner, Dr. Rudner, and Dr. Saciu all awesome. They have a website you can go to.

That is so bad. I would make sure your vet hears your experience. The only time we had to go to the emergency vet (knock wood) we used Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center in Westbury. It was 4 am on a Saturday. We only had Ike for about 2 months and he woke us up hard swallowing (I know that now). He was so panicked and so was I. Called to tell them we were coming. Had a problem finding them (they are I. An industrial park) so called from the car. Pulled up. Nurse waiting at door and took Ike right in. Even before paperwork was completed. Could not have been happier with them
