I recently dealt with an antique dealer at the Ottawa Antiques Market. She knows about jewelry, china, silver, and I found her to be quite thorough and pleasant. Her name is Darlene Brown and her business is called Recollections. She doesn't do art or furniture, but probably has suggestions. I can give you her number if it would be helpful. This week only, she's at Carlingwood Mall at a show. Nancy McPherson, CCSP Elegant Strategies for your home Www.elegantstrategies.com >
If she's looking to sell a LOT of her house contents she could contact dbgill@rogers.com They do in-home estate auctions very successfully. They also do appraisals I believe and would be able to give you a very current selling value on just about anything in your client's home from antiques down to kitchen wares.

The overwhelming majority of china hasn't been worth much for a long time now. If "plate collections" means "collectible plates," that's worth bupkis. Tchotchkes are all over the map, same with old furniture. You might take a few photos of representative items and post them to /r/whatsthisworth for an idea of what is/isn't worth selling. Post clear pix from all angles, with close-ups of any maker's marks.

You can also try searching or browsing kijiji/ebay/etc to try to estimate the worth. May be a bit hard if there's no brand/identifying markings on the items though. If you have a TON of stuff, you could also try selling with MaxSold.

Well, I guess the least hassle, assuming you have enough stuff to make it worth their while, is to look into estate sales/auctions. Off the top of my head, there's Spooner, Macleans, SellMyStuff, Mary Abraxas, and Whole Home Estate Sales.
I am looking for an appraiser for an older client who is selling some antiques/collectibles and who will take care of the removal and sale of such articles.
