With pets seems to rule out the cheaper options. Ottawa inn accepts pets

I stayed at the Marlboro for a conference a month ago and it was perfect, and $80/night. Obviously it isn't going to be fancy for that money, but it didn't feel sketchy. I loved it because it was fancy 100 years ago, so it still has the amazing architecture from then. Came with free breakfast (ordering off a menu: "eggs benedict please" FREE) which was in the need part of the hotel with high vaulted ceilings and gargoyles and old music. and it's a block from Portage and Main.

Sutherland. on main street a short bus ride/walk from downtown. great rates and the employees are some awesome people.

Econo Lodge may be as cheap as you'll get without it being super sketchy. It's close to downtown without being too near it.

Pro tip from a student! I had to do a ambulance observation in a small town a few hours out of Winnipeg, I emailed a motel there and told them I would be staying 4 days and is there anyway I could get a discount if I chose to stay there, the lady said she will only charge me 50$ a night if she didn't have to service my room each day, wicked deal and I loved it!

I don't know what kind of black-magic Google has going on but it's awesome for finding deals. We just booked a flight to Honolulu for $528 round trip because Google found it.

What constitutes cheap? Really, she would be best in an Air B&B but you can also get monthly stays at places like Cartier Place or Less Suites. They're basically apartments with kitchens and very basic amenities already provided

When I moved here and didn’t have an apartment yet I stayed at a few different Airbnbs while I got to know the city. A lot of them offer discounts if you stay longer!

Hostels would be your best bet if price is a factor

For camping - Rainbow Valley Campground - It is close and easy to get to where the recommended hotels are. Have not been there for a number of years but it used to be a nice campground with showers and a nice grassy park. My wife and I are staying there for the Saturday and Sunday night of the ride. http://www.rainbow-valley.com/

I recommend Rideau Heights Campground, its located on Rideau Heights Drive, near Prince of Wales & Hunt Club. There is a motel within 1/2 km of the campground and at least 5 other hotels & motels within 5 minutes of each other....this location is located in Ottawa's South End..near Prince of Wales & Hunt Club Road...two major roadways in Ottawa....accessing you to both East & West Ends....and the downtown core...all about 10-15 minutes drive...in general....centrally located in the city.
