check with Metro Access for the rides. If she has a temporary or permanent handicap pass she should be approved.

Hey Joe my mom regularly uses the volunteer drivers to get to her appointments and it really works great she likes the opportunity to chat with someone new! 206-448-5740

When I talked to Joe today, I shared some of the resources that the hospital and our insurance set up after Daryl's fall. The social worker, home health nurse, and physical therapist came to the house after our first doctor visit, and gave us lists of resources in the area. They were initiated by the doctor, so insurance and Medicare paid for these services. We also talked about other ways to help Donald and Liz during this recovery. The Senior Center in Renton should be able to recommend service providers in that area. It's hard to be be hurting and have to depend on others when you are used to taking care of yourself.
@PiaWurtzbach hope you feel better! I'm sure there's a good doctor I could recommend :)

Ranee check out www.riversidecountyhealthcare.org . The local office to submit paperwork is located 1515 N. Sunrise, next to DAP. If you bring all necessary documents they can qualify you that day for FREE health care. Only thing is the wait for a appt. can be very long. 760. 778-2210. The office has 2 doctors. I hope this help! Any questions let me know.
Mary G. replied:
Ranee prob qualifies for the program MISP thru Riv co. It is a health care program but she will prob need to go to Riv Co Regional Med ctr. There is an application online at www.rcrmc.org. meg Meg Lendrum can give more info on MISP and any other programs. Medi-cal kicks in for poor adults with no kids in January 2014.

Thanks to Obamacare, I now have insurance as of June 1. Yay! I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an HIV Specialist in the Palm Springs area that takes Blue Shield of...
Les Z. replied:
Don't ask about ACA Insurance; ask about whatever the health plan is (e.g. Blue Shield PPO or HMO, Blue Cross PPO or HMO, Kaiser Permanente, etc.)
Steve C. replied:
Dr. Clayton Barbour in Cat City is an HIV specialist and primary care physician. Not sure if he would take your insurance though, you can contact his office if you'd like. Just make sure to also ask about co-pays as I've heard some docs are now charging more if the visit is for "specialty" care as opposed to a regular visit. Still not sure how they differentiate but like someone else said, still a lot to figure out since it's all so new.
Paul N. replied:
DAP does not take patients who don't have HIV. Dr. Stansell, the best, is not currently taking new pts.
Paul N. replied:
Not one MD at Desert Oasis is infectious disease certified. The one somewhat ok MD there is not even board certified. Dr. Kerkar is connected with DRMC and Desert Oasis, she's excellent.
Paul N. replied:
Ken Lowstetter he states at the top of the thread that he doesn't have HIV. Insurance balks at sending HIV neg patients to specialists.
Tio C. replied:
The Dr's at Eisenhower are not listed as specialist for insurance purposes. They are and will accept patients that are HIV-. They work with high risk patients as well as primary care physicians. Dennis I am telling you that there is not a better clinic/doctors in the valley. Dr. Stansel, Steve Moore PA, Dr. Schiessl and Dr. Del Rasario and the entire staff are AMAZING
Anna M. replied:
Yes Dr Grimm, also Dr Kerkar both very good
Bruce K. replied:
I love Dr. Loftus but I don't know if he's taking new patients.
Les Z. replied:
A few comments: 1. Stop blaming the ACA or Obamacare for insurance plans that have "narrow" networks of physicians. The insurance plans charging the least have the "narrowest" networks. 2. Everyone with HIV in California is entitled (by law) to see a physician who is certified in HIV medicine. That is not the same as an infectious disease specialist. 3. I'm not sure why someone who is HIV negative would need to see an HIV specialist. I suppose if the person is looking for someone to discuss PrEP pros and cons, an HIV specialist might be more knowledgeable, but I think most primary care physicians who care for gay men should/would be able to discuss it. 4. The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association website is a good source for LGBTI-friendly providers. https://glmaimpak.networkats.com/members_online_new/members/dir_provider.asp
Donna C. replied:
No personal experience with it, but I have heard good things about Dr. William Grimm and his associates in Palm Springs. And ... let's try to call it by its right name - ACA or Affordable Care Act.
Roseann B. replied:
Donna even President Obama has embraced the name as a badge of honor so I have no issue giving him the credit due him!!!!
Paul N. replied:
Dr.Grimm has gone concierge. Check Eisenhower for Rick LoftusMD. Dr. Kerkar at DRMC is great. Your insurance may not allow an infectious disease specialist as a primary.
Dennis C. replied:
It's Blue Shield PPO
Bill P. replied:
This has been a frustrating day for me because of healthcare so I was really happy to see this post. Personally, I would not go back to Eisenhower Rimrock since they could not follow simple instructions. Thankfully Bill Grimm is on the list and he's taking new patients.
Any recommendations on both a family practice doctor and a dentist in Palm Springs, preferably gay?
Richard H. replied:
You can ask your provider forva gay friendly Dr. But not for a gay one. I recommend drJohn Stansell if he is in your plan.
James M. replied:
John Lake family dentistry on Tachevah (across from Desert Med Ctr) is excellent and fair priced!
Kay F. replied:
I've been going to Dr. Lake (family dentistry) on Tachevah for many years. They are highly organized & keep up with the latest dental techniques. I consider them expensive! I continue to stay with them because I take good care of my teeth & feel very confident with them.
I have friends down from Canada looking for doctor to perform catarct surgery in the valley. Any recommendations?
Paul B. replied:
Kim, you may want to call Dr. Raul Arencibia and Dr. Jeff Northcutt. Both are members of our community and they should be able to give you some names. They are partners, both optometrists and business partners who own an eye ware store on Palm Canyon. Here's their website address: http://www.palmspringsoptometrist.com/
