Emma M. replied:
E; your first appointment is usually around 20 weeks with a midwife. The NBAC is only open at certain time so keep calling (I think Monday and Friday). http://www.kemh.health.wa.gov.au/services/NBAC/index.htm

E: don't stress, it's totally normal to only see an OB at 36 at King Eddie! I had both my girls there and could not fault them at all. Fantastic care in both clinic, delivery room & ward!

The NBAC clinic is a WA health public service at Kemh. WA health also outsource to Community Midwifery WA to provide their person centred childbirth and pregnancy related support, advocacy and education to women. Give them a call on 94306882 and they can explain your many.choices of care to help you choose personalized care and can link you with the options available to you at NBAC. CMWA also run the vbac preparation classes and positive c section classes for public consumers, in fact mums who choose to birth in private hospitals also access also CMWA but pay a fee. Good luck....the CMWA website WWW.CMWA.net.au has more detailed information.

E - I had my vbac at kemh 2 months ago, I had an appointment with the nbac midwives first then an appointment with a consultant ob to talk about my non standard management plan. I had an independent midwife so I didn't do any further visits to the clinic but when I went into labour I had some great midwives who let me do what I needed to do. I think as I had signed off on a non standard management plan they gave me pro-vbac midwives which was awesome. Please ring the nbac clinic because they would like to see you earlier than that. Also for more information to inform yourself check out birthrites as mentioned, vbac facts.com and birth without fear.com. Best of luck!

I am from the UK and have been here for 14 years. i am at King Edward Memorial Hospital which is a high risk obstetric hospital but does have a low risk family birth centre attached. It is very different from the UK, not as autonomous but still very interesting and can be equally fulfilling! Pm me if you want to know more
Cayla S. replied:
I would suggest you stay away from private hospitals if you want a true experience. Try hospitals with family birth centre or MGP perhaps? You may also find it difficult to organise as all public hospitals require your university to provide a clinical facilitator. You could try Joondalup Health Campus it is public but run through Ramsay health which is private and has a private side in addition to the public maternity. They have an onsite facilitator so your uni doesn't have to organise one. It comes at a cost though:)
