M asks:
I have been advised to have my daughters eyes tested, can anyone recommend a good optometrist who specialises in testing a child's vision? I am NOR but am happy...
Tracey C. replied:
M. I had to c a specialist for my son (3) an hes been wearin glasses since 18 months. Dr Geoffary Lam in Subiaco is AWESOME for testin kids eyes (pretty sure he only does kids actually hehe). How old is ur daughter? An wot exactly r u seein about? If its just eye sight u cld prob just go to specsavers etc like wot other ppl here r suggesting, BUT if its for a turned eye etc an eye sight they'll just send u to c specialist anyway (I've been there)
Bronwen S. replied:
We saw Dr Geoffrey Lam too. Not only did we find him professional and competent, but he managed to thaw out a petrified 4 year old (who has taken it into his head that it is "scary" to see ANY doctor other that his beloved GP, despite no negative experiences). He also seems to be one of those very rare specialists who thinks things through at a practical common sense level - eg. Told us, "At his age, it's no good giving him a list of activities when he should and shouldn't wear his glasses. Tell him to always wear them indoors, and it's his choice to wear them or not outdoors."
Susan S. replied:
We see Barry Tucker in Ballajura - very good with children
Andrea S. replied:
Have just taken 2 of my 3 kids to Bernie Eastwood at Focal Point in Yokine and can not recommend her highly enough. She was very thorough and gave great explanations to both the kids and myself about what was happening and what was needed and why
Lana G. replied:
Michael Doyle at Bassendean Optical is brilliant with kids.
Pia-Anna C. replied:
Highly recommend Bernie Eastwood at Focal Point Optometrist!!! She is excellent and Fellow of College of Optimetrists.
Tara C. replied:
1. I just went to Spec Savers in the Innaloo shopping centre. The optometrist was great with my son:)
Natalie K. replied:
M: A developmental optometrist is best, they have more specialist skills in understanding the rapidly changing eye as a child grows. There's a brilliant man named Jean-Pierre Guillion at Eye Five in Osb Park. He's covered by Medicare and amazing at what he does, he'll pick up little things that no one else will. I'm an OT and have sent parents to him who have raved about him.

My daughter sees Dr Geoffrey Lam in Subiaco. Can highly recommend him:)
Esther N. replied:
I would highly recommend Bullcreek optometrist. Gary Crerie (The Optometrist) is a behavioural optometrist who specialise in children's vision.
Tricia G. replied:
I can also recommend John Pallasis (?) at Vision West in Karrinyup.....really lovely and they bulk bill!!!
Can anyone recommend an honest optometrist. I need to get my little girls eyes tested. Ta.
Tracy W. replied:
Rarely Andj, she is in a class with some real ratbags. She says its the noise giving her headaches but I wanted to rule out things before I took her to docs. The teachers make sure she drinks heaps so I can rule out dehydration. So now want to check her eyes.
Tracy W. replied:
Kylie Francis, she is 5
Kylie F. replied:
At that age, I had to have my daughters eyes tested and we went to Dr De La Hunty at Waikiki Private Hospital Specialist Centre. Just need a doc referral and don't need private cover. You will pay and get some back in Medicare but well worth it. He is absolutely amazing, has loads of children patients and I have seen him for myself too. When she is old enough, he will then send you to a normal optometrist.
Can anyone recommend an optometrist? How long does it take and what is the cost like?
Elliott B. replied:
Glasses are dirt cheap in Bali compared to Australia shop around Theres Plenty place sell them In fact you'l be spoilt for choice!!
Glenda M. replied:
Henri at Wina Optics. He is great. May last year I had 5 pairs made with my own prescription for $35 a pair. Price depends on the frame you choose
Fran B. replied:
Go to Wina Opticals at SupaNova in Kuta and see Mr Henry - awesome. Great service. He'll test your eyes and give u your prescription if u haven't already got your Medicare optical one. He has great reviews on Tripadvisor too but we've been several times. He will even send to your hotel if you don't want to go back and p/u\]
Does anyone know a good Optometrist to take Leila too?? We usually go to Eyes on Oxford so thinking just to take her there as she failed her Kindy eye test.
Amber B. replied:
Dr Anita Tandon is a paediatric ophthalmologist. She is awesome, I would see her, get a referral from your GP.
Latest visit to the optometrist has given me a reading contact in one eye and a distance contact in the other. My brain is supposed to get used to ignoring the bad eye...
