I`m in Hamilton and alot of my locals head to valens this time of year :) Nestled within the splendid pine and spruce forest Valens Lake has over 220 campsites -- 110 sites with hydro and water. An additional 10 sites are available for group camping. The campground is open for camping in any season. Valens Lake has everything to make camping enjoyable: modern washrooms, shower and laundry facilities. The campground is open eleven months out of the year, so visitors can experience nature in all seasons. Valens Lake can be reached at 905-525-2183 or 519-621-6029 or by email at valens@conservationhamilton.cahttp://www.conservationhamilton.ca/valens-conservation-area

Michele K Derome-Wilson . I just finished booking site 327. The camp is from July 2-7. I HATE the 23 day booking thing but unfortunately due to the importance of this trip I had to do it to ensure I had a site. I Had to book from June 16-July 7. I will be canceling June 16-July 1.

Shannan, Whitefish is a great camping location and is safe. Bathrooms in the Park is very good - actually excellently maintained. POG is closeby so no need to worry. There are showers and they are well maintained as well. http://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/.../pog-lake-campground.php

I'm not a fan of putting my tent right next to my eating area and using the same tarp. That's why it's important to invest in a good tent (i.e. if you can buy it at Canadian Tire, it's not a good tent). But a tent to have a common area when it rains - priceless! Scott Foster has got a great idea! I've also tried dollar store or CT tarps for years, and you get what you pay for. I'm about to spend some money to get a silicon tarp from MEC, as big as possible.

Also - use the slip knot to tie around one end, and the taut-line hitch for the other end (or a 'trucker's hitch'): http://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/tautline-hitch/ . Also, if you put a little loop when finishing off any knot, it makes tear-down so simple (sometimes called a 'jerk hitch', a 'highwayman's knot' or a 'quick-release knot)! We call it 'The Sheeler Modification' in honour of my farmer father-in-law who used this little trick all the time!
Just listed near Bobcaygeon. In need of a handy man. Would be great for a snowmobile camp with a great view of Pigeon lake. Jump on that sled and hit the lake!
