I'm in grad school as well so I understand you may be busy, but if you are interested in learning about bike maintenance and tuning it up yourself, the staff and volunteers at Bike Saviours will teach you for free - you just need to pay hourly to use the tools which I believe is around $4/hour. Check out their website here: http://www.bikesaviours.org/

A couple of years ago I went into a bike shop on the southeast corner of 32 nd st and Bell rd to find a bolt to hold the crank arm to the crankshaft. The guys there were pretty helpful and they let me walk out with a couple of bolts the right size with no charge as long as I told eleven people about their store. So, yeah, I figure now is as good a time as any to plug their store. 32 nd Street and Bell Road. Kind of tucked in the corner but you'll see them.

I like Dominics in Tempe for tune ups. found them after Tempe Bike tightened my brakes all the way against the tire twice.
