You should try the habitat for humanity re-store on Amherst by Wegmans. In terms of furniture, I've always found they have better quality and selection than thrift stores.

There is a consignment shop called "This n That" on transit rd. I have had a lot of success there. It's just south of the I90 exit. My top two thrift stores are Amvets@the corner of Dick and Walden & Buffalo City Mission just down the road from there (also on Dick rd).
