Considering a week long trip to Maine this summer with 5 kids ages 6-14. Any suggestions on what to see, where to stay, etc????
Jacquelyn K. replied:
We go a lot because we have family up there. Freeport, Portland, Brunswick area. Lots to do there. We fell in love with it the very first time we went and have been back several times since. The lighthouse you don't want to miss is the Portland headlight, in Cape Elizabeth. It's my favorite place, anywhere. It's gorgeous, and you'll see why it's the most photographed lighthouse in America, it's also on a huge park with lots to do. The Desert of Maine is a very unique attraction. There are boat cruises, seal and whale watches. Portland and Bath are great walking towns with lots to see and do, don't miss LL Bean in Freeport. We've never had a problem with the Best Western in Freeport. It's an odd location, but a good hotel, and there's a lot spread out on that road, including a delicious frozen custard place. In the morning they give discounts to the FreeportCafe, which is on the hotel grounds. All meals there are yummy. Have fun!
You're welcome. It's a good place! Reasonable, clean, the pool is great, the view is beautiful, the people that run it are incredibly nice, and it's within 20 minutes of everything touristy. We've stayed there three times now, because there's no other place we like as much. Also, they have consistent internet. My husband needs to be able to work, if necessary, while we're away, and we've had too much trouble in other places with him not being able to get online. Also, I know that you don't have dogs, but we do, and they go where we go. This Best Western has an entire floor of pet friendly rooms in the big building above the pool. They also keep track of where we stay and always offer us that same room, which is perfect for all of us. We like them a lot. And, obviously, we LOVE Maine:)

Jacquelyn Smith Kirsch. Thank you so much. You are like a travel agent. Lol. I'm responsible for planning the trip for 9 of us and it is ALOT of work. Thanks for taking some of the stress off!!!

Christine B. replied:
There is also Bahama Breeze by Smith haven mall. Even though it is a chain it’s very nice and has out door seating usually with a singer playing the steal drums or some other “islandy” type music. You don’t even realize you are sitting a few feet away from route 25

Do you feel like traveling? Verace in Islip is fantastic and has an outdoor patio. There is also the restaurant that took over Restaurant Blue in Blue Point (it is literally right at the end of Nichols Road and can never remember the name). I enjoyed my meal there (but the service was terrible).
Hi, I'm looking for some restaurants locally that have gluten free options. Thank you in advance!

My favorites (that haven't made me sick, yet) are Ragazzi, Michael Anthony's in Centereach (GF CALAMARI on their menu! And their pasta dishes are Yum!) Chili's (believe it or not!) Lake Grove Diner (finally, GF Pita for gyros and gf French toast, among other things) Five Guys (Everything is GF except the rolls. Ask for your burger wrapped in lettuce or in a dish. Just ask them to change gloves first) and Aragona's GF pizza is the least yucky I've found. (I like it overcooked)
Jessie L. replied:
PattiAnn Lozano, also if you have an iPhone, there is an app called "FindMe Gluten Free" that has saved my life a few times! ;) (or at least kept me from going hungry in an unfamiliar area)
