I'm going to suggest that you consider an entirely different approach. Find a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) who will work with you on an hourly basis. And sit down for a chat before you commit to paying someone ongoing commissions or advisory fees. Educate yourselves about the different kinds of financial advisors and products out there, including cost, tax efficiency and whether these products are appropriate to your circumstances. A little education up front goes a long way.
