Do not give antibiotics for hoof abcesses. They need to drain and heal from inside out. Antibiotics can cause an abscess to remain in the hoof for months and months. Try Animalintex Poultice Pads.

My gelding struggled with repeat abcesses...what worked for him was 2 x daily soaks with warm water and Epsom salt, at least 30-45 minutes per soaking. After the access bursts, then we soaked with Clean Trax 3 days in a row. Really important to kill the bacteria. Keep the foot wrapped until the hole heals so the dirt won't enter the foot. It's a lot of work and very hard to see them in so much pain. Be persistent and patient, good luck!
