I've been to a couple of places: We stayed at Dana Inn in Mission Bay by SeaWorld. Next time we stayed at TrendWest near Balboa Park and I think Holiday Inn Bayside another time. Stayed several days so we did lots but I might suggest you check into the Trolley tours: You can get off/on & they go to Seaport Village, Gas Lamp area, Zoo, Balboa Park, Old Town, Coronado Island and more. Just a thought.
