Hey man, I just moved back to the area and can't recommend someone here, but when I was in Chicago, I found someone through the listings on the [Psychology Today website.](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/va/norfolk) Good for you for being proactive and asking for help. Just so you know, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number is 1-800-273-8255. You can call them right now to talk to someone.

I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for years. I see Betsy Koivisto for therapy and Layla Rifai for meds at Hampton Roads Behavioral Health. I’ve been seeing them since I got out of a week long psych stay in January and they’ve been great. Betsy has a really calming voice and has helped me tremendously.

Do you have health insurance? It’s very easy to go to their website and find a therapist that’s in network so it costs you less. That’s been my biggest problem with getting help. I unfortunately don’t have any recommendations but I want you to know I’m in the same boat. I’ve been real low and I know what it’s like to be at the end of my rope. Find someone and get help, you deserve it.

This guy helped me with anxiety / insomnia. Dr. Joginder Pal, MD He's not a very warm person, but he's straight to the point, which is what I like. I don't need to be coddled like a teenage girl. This may be not what you're looking for, though. He also helped a friend of mine with bi-polar. Completely re-arranged his meds and is doing much better since then.

I have a few friends who have seen Eileen Osgood and raved about how much she helped them: [https://thepsychotherapycenter.com/professionals/eileen-osgood-lcsw/](https://thepsychotherapycenter.com/professionals/eileen-osgood-lcsw/) She can't prescribe medication, but the page says she can coordinate with a primary care doctor if you end up needing that. Hang in there.

I struggle, too. It can take a while to find a space in someone's schedule. Many companies offer an Employee Assistance Program that can help you get you get in earlier and often cover the first couple appointments.

Finney Zimmerman Psychiatric has very good practitioners and I can highly recommend both Douglas Finney (female, her full name is Catherine Douglas), who has worked with the NSU and ODU football teams on self esteem and motivation, and Dr. Fuss.
