Reno peeps: Need recs for a good kid-friendly eye doctor...equally helpful are tips on who to avoid. Thanks!
Ann N. replied:
Pauline Hong is an awesome opthamologist. Terry Cochrane is a wonderful optometrist.....
Maggie O. replied:
Nothing against Dr. Johnson, but as a ophthalmologist he is trained to think of eye treatment from one direction and that's surgery. On young kids, surgery is typically just cosmetic and not focused on retraining the brain or in building up depth perception or better vision. Sorry, I'm a little passionate about this subject.
Amy R. replied:
Dr. Richard Meyer is awesome
Paige M. replied:
My kids see Dr Pauline Hong at Sierra Eye Assoc. She has been wonderful!
Fong M. replied:
Dr Johnson
Tiffany E. replied:
Not a fan of Dr. Meyer. He wanted me to put Jacob through all kinds of eye therapy and prescribed glasses. The problem wasn't his eyesight at all...his migraines had changed. Needless to say, I was NOT happy with Meyer after spending $600.
Paige M. replied:
I've heard Dr. Meyer is fabulous for retraining what your eye or brain is not seeing. Kids and Adults with reading difficulties often have a problem with some sort of tracking. I know several people who did his therapy and don't have any trouble seeing the words on the pages anymore.
William H. replied:
Dr Johnson and Dr. Meier are both good. Meier often recommends more than just glasses he will give you exercises to assist with the problem.
Chris C. replied:
Stay away from Dr. Needles and Dr. Burns for sure!! ;0)
Adrienne B. replied:
Hands down, Dr. Becky Humphreys at Family Eyecare Associates in Sparks. She is a mom of two and specializes in working with children. Can't say enough great things about her!
Stephanie M. replied:
Erica has seen Dr. Hong for years... We love her
Michelle J. replied:
Dr. Johnson
David J. replied:
I'm not a kid but for an ophthalmologist, I go to Dr. Terry Key
Maggie O. replied:
Sierra Eye Associates has the only pediatric ophthalmologist in town and lots of kids go see Dr. Alan Johnson. However, after six years, I switched Samantha over to Meier Eye & Vision. They are the only place that I know of in town that uses a vision therapy program to help kids better learn how to use their eyes. Samantha could read a line lower on the vision chart and switched from black and white vision to full color in one eye after she completed their training program, which strengthened her weakened eye.

I used to see Dr. Angelini, but apparently they no longer take our insurance, not on the provider list anymore. Hence, new doc needed cause Diedra's going blind over here.
Are there any classes during the day tomorrow? My eye doctor is taking a sick day tomorrow and had to cancel my appt. Gotta find something else to do with my day!
