Karen, we are moving to Atlanta (Alpharetta) on Friday. We decided to go with Golden Movers. Part of that selection has to do with some criteria from my new company. Brothers EZ Moving was our favorite "cheaper quote," about 40% less and we are a big move. Their number is (813) 299-2907. Golden phone number is (813) 714-8119

I went with Sweet Lou's for my last move: http://www.yelp.com/biz/sweet-lous-man-with-a-van-brooklyn They were super friendly, quick, inexpensive, and very responsive to emails and texts leading up to the move. I offered to help load boxes, but they wouldn't let me lift a finger. I had a friend who used citymove.com and was pleased with her experience. You put in as much detailed information as possible + your price range, and movers will place bids.

If you have enough stuff for 2 cargo van trips, a mover with a small cube truck may be more cost/time efficient. If you're moving on the 1st/15th of a month, book as far in advance as you can. Make sure you have a bunch of bottles of water to offer to the movers while they're working. I don't know pricing as I haven't moved in a while but you can always ask around to the different companies and compare.
The best moving company I've used in New York is Oz Moving. I've had some really awful experiences with other companies overcharging me for time/labor and adding bullshit charges once they had my stuff in the truck, but Oz was always very straightforward about their charges and never swindled me. I used them for work half a dozen times and never had any issues.

I used Intense Movers when I moved in November and it was honestly the best moving experience I have ever had. I was moving in a hurry (roommate got us evicted while I was out of town, yay!) so I hired them to pack my stuff in addition to moving it. I was pretty pissed about having to move so I basically spent the whole time drinking beers and pretending it wasn't happening, but they were amazing and handled EVERYTHING. Another great thing about them is once you tell them how much stuff you have, they give you a flat rate for moving, instead of charging per hour, so you don't have to worry about them moving extra slow or taking an hour to wrap up your couch. I don't remember exactly how much they cost-- it was slightly more than other quotes I'd received, but totally worth it. *I am in no way affiliated with the dudes, but they made a really shitty situation go as well as it could and I just kind of love them. http://www.yelp.com/biz/intense-movers-brooklyn
