Shopping for scotch in Northern Europe? Hi r/scotch!
I'm getting married this summer and going on a Baltic cruise for my honeymoon that sails out of Amsterdam and stops...

I'm saying as a Finn, do not place your bets on Helsinki. Our alcohol taxing is through the roof and bottles that you can buy from Germany for 30 euros are over 50 euros here. One store (Alko) has a monopoly of liqour sales here so there's that also.

Congratulations! I can only speak for the online prices as I've never been in an actual shop in the Netherlands, but the prices are pretty good and hard to beat. Maybe you can set something up with /u/scotch_fanatic and his www.finedrams.com for picking up while in Denmark?

I can recommend finedrams.com (whiskyeksperten.dk here in Denmark) while you're here.

rombo.dk primarily a source for great(GREAT) rum but it looks like their whisky selection has some unique bottlings sprinkled throughout. Otherwise Amsterdam for sure. I would check online at stores in France, Netherlands and Belgiums and just have the stuff mailed to where you will be staying in Amsterdam

In sweden (and norway) you can only buy alcohol in one, government run shop. The selection is usually not awesome, and the VAT is HIGH.

Alcoholic beverages are crazy expensive in Scandinavian countries, you're best bet would be to find a local store in Amsterdam or ordering online and try to deliver to your location. For ordering online I can recommend either whiskysite.nl or drankgigant.nl

I live in Copenhagen and I haven't found anywhere good yet. Standard fares are readily available, but don't expect anything special.

Thanks everybody who wrote back! Looks like my best bet is to get stuff shipped to my friend who lives in the Netherlands and pick up the bottles right before I fly home. Some of the European sites you've shown me have crazy selection and prices.
