Austin or even Texas friends - I have a dear who has been suffering from serious migraines for about a month. Do any of you have a recommendation for a neurologist you...

Nicole - the hospital neurologist and Dr. Das diagnosed it as a "complex migraine". Do you know if that is just another name for the type you have?

Marci Roy is my neurologist - supposedly one of the best in town for migraine and carpal tunnel. When I was suffering from intractable migraine (20+ headaches a month) a few years ago, Dr. Roy sent me to Houston to meet with Dr. Ninan Mathew at the Houston Headache Clinic. I stayed in the hospital there for a week of intensive inpatient care, which eventually broke the migraine cycle. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Mathew—he changed my life. However, he was an evil genius (aka: total asshole). His bedside manner was a cross between Adolph Hitler and a scorpion. WORTH EVERY DIME!!! Like I said, he changed my life. http://houstonheadache.com/ninan-mathew-md/

I love mine! Dr Aubrectrova is amazing! I have hemiplegic migrains and she is the only one (I went to about 4 others prior to finding her) that found something that fixed them! Due to the complexity of hemiplegic migrains I can't take preventative drugs, but I know when I start getting one and I just take a pill and it goes away! She has great bedaide mannors and is very knowledgeable in migraines!

Dr. Patrick Nolan here in Austin really helped my wife with her migraines & recently helped my mother-in-law very patiently even though she didn't yet have her health insurance set up. Really respect that.

Thanks everyone! I've had this migraine going on 3 weeks now. It's a complex migraine and sent me to the ER then admitted to the hospital with stroke like symptoms. I now know those symptoms are characteristic of a "complex migraine". My regular neurologist, Verona, couldn't get me in until July 16 so I went to another one who could get me in, Dr Das. She kept me on Fioricet (left hospital w that) & did an EEG. The EEG came back abnormal so she immediately put me on anti-seizure medication. I still had the migraine but she said she could not introduce new medication for that while starting me on the anti-seizure meds because if I had a negative side effect, she would not know which one caused it. 2.5 weeks later I still have this migraine. A friend told me today that Fioricet should not be taken more than two days in a row at one time because it causes rebound headaches and that is probably what i'm dealing with. Dr. Das told me to keep taking it. I'm so worried if that's the case because I have been taking it for 2.5 weeks!! I really do not want to take anti-seizure medication because of the negative side effects. I am still seeing my regular neurologist next Wednesday for a second opinion, but really want to find someone who knows their stuff!!! I've only seen Verona twice because I do not get migraines very often & wasn't overly impressed, but no really dissatisfied. Sorry for the novel here, but wanted to share it all in case anyone else has experienced something similar!!! Thanks!!!

Dr. Marcy Roy (http://www.westlakemedical.com/tenant_info.php?nav=ppage&tid=9). She's really wonderful. I have unique migraines and even though it took us awhile to figure out my triggers she was persistent and kind. I always feel taken care if by her staff, which is so important when you're in pain. Your friend may need to get a referral from her GP. I did and was able to get an appt much faster than cold calling. Best of luck to her.

I have been suffering from migraines since I was 4 years old. I have been seeing a neurologist off and on since then. I am IN LOVE with mine here in TX. She is in Round Rock at Scott & White. Dr. Stephanie Vertrees. Amazing.
I have recently moved to the Austin, TX area and looking for a rheumatologist/ internist who specializes in treating FMS as well as a neurologist who can work in tandem...

Anyone in the Round Rock/Austin area, I need a neurologist. The one that was recommended doesn't have any appointments for two months and I need to see one right away....
