Are there any mental health clinics for students? I'm at Sac City and I really need someone to talk to. Any psychiatrist recommendations?

Haven't used the student mental health services at sac City college but I have utilized similar services at a different school. If you don't find the offered services working for you, it's okay! Try a different counselor or a different service. Speaking from my experiences, sometimes you have to try a couple times before you find something/someone that "clicks" with you. I know people say this all the time but it is accurate. Please try not to be discouraged, you are worthy of excellent care! I'm currently attending therapy through a non-profit, Hope Counseling Center. They have a couple different locations through Sacramento and are sliding scale. Have had the best experience with therapy thus far with them. I do see a a trainee who is working to get her license but she is incredibly professional, supportive, and kind while we explore different themes. Would definitely recommend them to anyone seeking those types of services. Also, they were prompt in communication when I tried to make my initial appointment.:)

Do you currently have any health insurance? MediCal? If you do, I highly recommend trying to switch your plan to Kaiser's MediCal. Dealing with the Sacramento County Mental Health System has been a joke. My wife switched to Kaiser and once she became active with them, was able to see a provider the same day. This recommendation is for after you get stabilized with some of the other services users have already posted. As someone diagnosed with Anxiety and Panic Disorder, my PMs are open if you need someone to talk to. I hope you're able to get in to see someone and can get some relief from your symptoms.

You can PM me if you need to. I work in the field and can research more resources for you in needed or requested. Didn’t want to impose.

I wont lie to ya, there isnt much in the way of mental illness help in sac city. Went in 2014-2015, had a psychotic break a number of times, students were douche nozzles about it and teachers didn't really care. ended up dropping out 2015, and yea here I am giving you advice.

I dont have useful info. for you, but just wanted to say stay strong and get what you need. Looks like people have posted some good options here.

Depends on what you’re dealing with. Here’s the county website: http://www.dhs.saccounty.net/bhs/pages/mental-health-services.aspx If you’re dealing with LGTBQAI issues, check with the Gender Health Center. Hope that helps

Actually Sac City should be able to provide you with resources and there *should* actually be someone available for you there if memory serves. I work for Los Rios. I am off work on injury for the week otherwise I would find out which department can help you. I'd assume their guidance counseling can help but honestly I don't actually work with the students. I lived with pretty severe depression. I'm really glad you reached out. It's the first step to getting better.
AlienFartPrincess replied:
Does the campus have a clinic? You could try Turning Point Urgent Care Clinic. It’s near UCDMC. The number to get started with services with the county is through the Access Team 916-875-1055. Not sure what your insurance is but that may be a good start. Good luck!
Terok42 replied:
Ask your counselor. Many colleges have on campus mental health help for free. If you're in highschool still ask your counselor. Make sure to not mention you are suicidal and if they ask make sure to tell them you are only contemplating. They will lock you up for 3 days if they think you're about to do it. If you REALLY are about to do it then go down to heritage oaks mental hospital. They are one of the best in the nation. If you call heritage oaks they will lie and tell you they are full. If you show up in crisis they HAVE to take you.

I hope you are doing OK. Rhodda North 147 is the on campus Crisis Center. "CRISIS SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING ACUTE EMOTIONAL DISTRESS AND REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. PLEASE COME DIRECTLY TO RN 147 FOR ASSISTANCE."

Took me forever until I found community psychiatry. Get medi-cal I worked and was a student and got it because I do not make enough money. It’s paperwork and time. But surprisingly some ok healthcare. There’s a couple really good psychiatrists there. DM me if you need a name. I’ve been to most health clinics around here and most psychiatrists were awful.
