[BIFL request] Can anyone recommend a good leather wallet?
Kclhellfish replied:
I have the saddleback medium bifold wallet, and I couldn't be happier with it. It is very sturdy but is classy enough for my rather posh office environment, looks great after a couple of years of use. You cannot go wrong with it. http://www.saddlebackleather.com/leather-medium-bifold-wallet

It's expensive but I've had this wallet for 5+ years now and it looks brand new. http://www.prada.com/en/CA/e-store/man/wallets/bi-fold/product/2MN077_053_F0002.html

I'll pretty much always recommend my Chris Rose kangaroo leather bifold.

Phil's wallets, cheap, made well from recycled leather

I've had a black leather Tomy Hilfiger trifold wallet for about a decade now. Deffo would recommend.
BeastmanCaravan replied:
You can get something made just for you in /r/leatherclassifieds and it will be handstitched, full grain leather which is what you want for BIFL quality.

I have this one: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1012504&vid=1&pid=855881012. So far it has lasted 2 years with almost no wear or signs of aging. Much better than any other store brand that I've found.

Corter Leather is awesome... /u/corterleather makes really great six-card bifolds. They also have a sister(?) site for a newish brand called Albatross that sells very cool, very affordable wallets (40$ bifolds that look as amazing as 100$ Tanner bifolds) I'm a sucker for long wallets though, and they have one for 70$. Also check out a creator named Vitme on Instagram for amazing stuff. He's based in Thailand, he made my wallet.

Rolex Explorer (is a classic arctic watch) and looks amazing on brown leather. Tudor North Flag or Blackbay 36 are also great options

Where to buy high end fabrics? Hi. I'm looking to buy high end apparel fabrics such as denim, cotton, leather, wool, and fleece. I want extremely good quality and will...
kitty_muffins replied:
You might have better luck by deciding on a particular fabric at a time, then asking (yourself, reddit, google), “who makes the highest quality denim?” etc.
I’m not sure what constitutes highest quality or top dollar to you, but ordering from indie fabric stores online will probably be your best bet.
For instance, my local fabric store is Stonemountain & Daughters in Berkeley. Their online store is a bit hard to search, but most of their inventory is on there. It’s such good quality. Lately I have been drooling over their silk noil, and their naturally dyed organic cotton knits, but there are plenty of good things there. Check it out.
I’ll also throw this out there— I love the Robert Kaufman Essex Linens. I love how they look, wash, & drape. They’re not super premium or anything ($12-15/yd) but they are so so good. Similarly, Cloud 9 Fabrics makes a number of organic cotton things that are very good quality. Their quilting fabrics can be a bit too light and crisp for apparel, but they do other cottons that are great.
Finally, the November Seamwork newsletter turned me on to wool knits— like light t-shirt knits and athleticwear knits made of wool. It’s amazing. [The Fabric Store](https://www.thefabricstore.co.nz) has a bunch!
nutationsf replied:
I have only bought in person but Britex has a online store as well. There is nothing low end in the whole store. It’s where I get Japanese silk thread. https://www.britexfabrics.com
fishtardo replied:
Probably not the place for denim but [Darrel Thomas](https://www.darrellthomas.com) has legitimate couture fabrics
newthethestral replied:
I agree with the other comment, but a recommendation I have is www.tissudallas.com .They don’t have everything you’re looking for, but the quality of the fabrics they have is great. (I do have to say I’ve never ordered from them, only bought in store, so I can’t say anything about buying online from them.

Where can I find chrome leather to suede my shoes in SF? No one seems to carry this.
Ann M. replied:
Jack's Shoe Repair, 101 Market St, suedes my shoes. Don't know if they'd sell you the chrome leather by itself, but they can suede your shoes for you. Somewhat pricey.
Claire V. replied:
I got mine at SH Frank on 17 th in the Mission, per James Thorpe's recommendation. They sell big scraps pretty cheap. Downside is that their hours are really inconvenient.
