Can anyone recommend a good racing tyre in 2.25"x 17"? These are michelin moped racing tyres no longer available. Are folks using Heidenau? Any suggestion for dealer/...
Ben S. replied:
Confirmed tonight with the MopedGP guys. Sava F001 is the tire to hvae
Seth R. replied:
Thanks! this machine competes in the classic 50 cc gp races (up to 1983) here in the USA- has 4 FIM North American 50 cc championships and 5 USCRA class championships under various riders.
Some of the top placers in MopedGP ran the Heidenau - but if I remember correctly, the Sava F001 was generally favored. Treatland sells them: https://www.treatland.tv/sava-F001-racing-slick-tire-p/sava-f001-17 x95-fslash-70-tire.htm

I would go for any brand name road tyre that has a suitable speed rating preferably something produced in high quantities, There is research behind that to be a quality product, If I could i would try the 2,50 x17 bridgestones myself, just because the battlax is so damn good on the 250/500/900 cc bikes and lets me do more then was possible 5 years ago with race tyres. On the other hand, michelin has a huge production of narrow tyres, and for what I've used them, they were great.
How much are you guys paying to get tires mounted? Last time I had it done was $50 per wheel(unmounted), and I think it shouldn't be more expensive than my car tire...
David E. replied:
Why shouldn't it be more expensive than a car? Wheel removal & install is more work, and with bikes you have to take care not to scratch either side of the wheel. Also volumes are less as far as covering the cost of specialized equipment.
Kevin I. replied:
Thank you everyone. Got my tires installed already. I chose to go to a local shop. https://www.facebook.com/134790873236600 Phan's Smog Station

Try this guy: http://www.mototireguy.com/ A set will set you back 60$ (wheels off the bike)

+1 for RMC Moto in Santa Clara. Wouldn't go elsewhere.
Can anybody recommend good used tire places that are cheap around SF or east bay? Need a tire shop that is not run by questionable people and sell reasonably priced used...

don't skimp on tires, it's not worth it. "If it separates you from the ground, pay the extra pound."
Looking for local shop recommendations. Im located in san jose and lookong for a shop to do a 15k mile service and throw on some new tires on an 06 zx10r
