Dunno if it's far enough South for you, but I'm always happy with my cut at [Mission Square Barbers](http://www.yelp.com/biz/mission-square-barber-shop-san-jose). Not only do they do a fine job, but when they're done they vacuum all the hair off of you so you don't have a bunch running down into your shirt. Price is about 20 bucks.

Check out Jerry's Barber Shop on San Tomas Aquino and Campbell. Jerry has an outrageous Elvis bouffant and the interior looks like something straight out of the seventies.

Sounds like [Kent's](http://www.yelp.com/biz/kents-hair-and-nails-san-jose) may be the place for you. Right off Monterey and Capitol Expway. Many of my friends and I have been going here for several years. I've had my hair cut by most of the guys here and they're all rock solid. They'll line you up with a straight razor here if that's what you're looking for as well. $8 for a haircut, $13 for a haircut + hairwash/face massage. Good luck!

Go to Precision Cutz on Story Road. You may think its eastside and all, but It is definitely the place to go. You should make a prior phone appointment,though. Its 15$ per haircut and I usually leave a 5 dollar tip but thats upto you. Great Yelp reviews as well.

There is one on the corner of Union and Los Gatos Almaden near the Safeway where you can get a wet shave and they have some kind of hand machine they hold on to and rub your shoulders - feels amazing.
