I am here on vacay and was wondering if anyone could recommend a cleaning lady? I don't speak Spanish at all. What is the cost for one here? Thanks everyone

House? Complete cleaning? One time, weekly?

Fiona Kerr, the cleaning woman I use is Johanna, she doesn't speak English but she is very thorough and we manage fine. Your place is small, it won't take 8 hours - she cleans mine on occasion because even at low wages I can't afford it regularly. I pa y her $8.00 + if I've got a particularly dirty or out of the ordinary job, I bump it accordingly. She is usually here 4-5 hours. Her # is 88887503. I suggest using google translate to get a basic phrase about what you want and when before calling.
Mike Walter is making a very good point here. Figure into the cost the price of a lawyer to make the contract and explain to you your obligations. Even or especially for part time employees. Especially in San Juan Del Sur where they have been figuring out how to get money out of Gringos for 100s of years. If you offer an employee a low wage, no extra pay for holidays, and you may not know it is a holiday, they will accept it. Knowing that when the relationship ends they can go to the Ministry of Trabajo and get an order saying you cannot leave the country until you pay them what the law says they are owed. When there is no contract and business records they will believe the employee. This is how bad it can be. I have had a woman who worked full time for me use a sick day per month to go work for a friend. He thought she had her own business and whatever they agreed to was fine. She was an accountant so to a gringo that sounds right. The relationship ended with both employers at roughly the same time and we both wound up at the ministry of Trabajo. He had no contract. So the ministry decided that she was his full-time employee too. Even though I had work records showing she worked for me. The ministry decided that he owed her back pay for the other 29 days of the month as well as INSS needed to be paid. Plus her vacation pay.
We have a studio available for monthly rentals (or longer) at El Jardin Hotel close to San Juan del Sur. Ideal for 1 person or a couple. You have access to the hotel...
So since I've been back my cleaning lady has gone AWOL. I could really use a referral for someone reliable and competent to clean my place1 x week. Any suggestions?
