Orkin wants to charge $450 and Clark pest is also willing to come and see what it is. Everyone else said no. If I could open the fireplace doors and toss in a duraflame without the possibility of a rabid raccoon coming at me..then I would take that advice ;) Just hoping it doesn't break the glass fireplace doors before Clark comes tomorrow.

Dave Montgomery from Montgomery Masonry. We have used him for multiple jobs at three different houses. He's awesome!!!! My coworker just had him do work. Others had quoted her thousands of dollars for repair work which he found not at all necessary and only charged her a few hundred for the work.
Does anyone know of a good exterminator? I have ants really bad in my house and I know it's because they're looking for water but this is starting to become ridiculous.

All you have to do is use sugar, water and boric acid and they will leave and die. Don't pay any one to come out. I use this recipe and it works every time you can find them online or look it up on youtube. http://www.antsgetrid.com/get-rid-of-ants-naturally/boric-acid

I'm with Michelle in looking for some green alternatives. I'd be careful how much poison you use in your house. One person posted about a year ago on FB, "I'm so glad I finally got rid of all those ants. I sprayed the perimeter of my house with ant poison." And I thought... okay, now every time you go in & out of your house your walking through it/exposing yourself to it. http://www.upci.upmc.edu/ceo/pesticides/

I use Skin So Soft Oil (Original Scent) from Avon, they hate it and it is safe for pets and humans unlike chemicals such as Raid, etc. I take a cotton ball soaked in it and run it around the perimeter of my counters and it works like magic! I also use it where i see ant trails. I have also used it on the bottom of my dogs water and food bowls and no ants! I also heard Ants dont like to cross Talcum Powder for some reason. Not a permanent fix but for a temporary solution it works!

It's important to treat both the house & yard. I would suggest Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth which, unlike flea powders & flea sprays, kills fleas & eggs safely when used as advised. I think it's important to keep pets away from carpeting being treated with DE so they don't experience respiratory irritation since they're close to the ground. http://www.fleabites.net/kill-fleas-with-diatomaceous-earth-powder/

I highly recommend Keystone in Hayward, 510-782-8285. A few years back we had rats after a neighboring roof was redone. They came and gave us an estimate and told me what they needed to do, seal up access near roof line etc to keep future rats out and put in traps and the service was top notch!
