Redfin is the answer. All of their agents that I met were really sharp.

We just purchased a home as a first time home buyer with Redfin and highly recommend them. Our agent was Brian MacMahon https://www.redfin.com/real-estate-agents/brian-macmahon. Great guy, very helpful, and did a lot to help us with negotiations with the seller.

There is no such thing as a true buyers agent, they make more money with the more you spend. The whole thing is a hoax. Realtor = New and used house salesperson. Just remember that, it's a trademarked fake term by a lobbying organization. Don't forget to demand a lower principal price because the MID is going away.

A lot is going to depend on the neighborhood you want to buy. Expertise of a region can be very helpful. I have bought 3 houses in Alexandria and have used Deborah Jackson on the last 2. https://www.mcenearney.com/our-associates/info/deborajackson
She has been great advocate and a true asset in a real estate market that I know quite well. The first house I bought with her, she actually got the owner to accept my offer which was lower than 2 others, because my financing was better. I considered raising my offer, but she was able to push it through with some great salesmanship.
I've never used her to sell a house, I am more than capable of doing that, but when buying a house a buyers agent that knows the market and cares about their client (few and far between in my opinion) is invaluable.

We used Redfin to buy our first home. The agent is really there just to facilitate the sale - really just to make sure it goes through so they get the commission. You do save money that way, but you have to do all the work of making sure you are getting a good deal yourself. I wouldn't expect much insight from the realtor. Maybe full commission realtors are the same way, I haven't used one to find out.

https://www.zillow.com/profile/John-M-Rebolledo/ I would like to recommend John with C21 Redwood because he is one of the few agents that actually spends times with his clients and gets to know them and their needs/wants. He’s a hard negotiator and will not give away your money. You can read his reviews from past clients to get an idea of how he goes above and beyond for every single person he works for. He often sells homes before they even on the market and knows of upcoming listings. He’s also got a great network of lenders that he can refer to you.
