Any Santa Cruz locals with suggestions on cheap beach camping, non-tourist activities, and good food? I am headed down to Santa Cruz in the next couple of days and need...

For eating I suggest Cafe Brasil. Fantastic food but they're only open during brunch and are usually busy.

Camping, I can't really help you with, sorry. For food, if you want mexican, go no further than Taqueria Michaocan on the corner of 14th and Eastcliff. For Indian there's Sitar downtown which will give you a decent amount for $5. For Chinese, I'm an advocate of the lunch specials of Phoenix on Mission street. For American you can't go wrong with Burger. on the corner of Bay & Mission, or Betty Burgers (there's one downtown and one on the eastside). For some cheap greek, there's Falafel on mission street. You can find some decent sea food on the warf, but it gets pricy. If you want cheapish good seafood, head south down to Moss Landing and check out Phil's. I have yet to find any good and cheap italian food yet. If you're going to be here tomorrow, theres an awesome farmer's market that sets up downtown on wednesdays from 1:30-6:30. For some non-touristy things, I suggest hiking. There are a lot of cool trails in Wilder Ranch to the west of the UCSC campus, and in Pogonip to the east of Highway 9. If you choose pogonip, check out the garden of eden, a fun little watering hole to go swimming in. If you want beaches, stay away from the main ones. Natural Bridges isn't usually that crowded. Twin lakes is ok if you stay on the south end by the cliffs (theres better swell over there anyways). Honestly, head north on Highway 1 for a bit to see some truly breathtaking coasts and beaches. Some of them have some pretty cool tide pools if you catch them at low-tide. If you're looking for night life, check out whats going on at the catalyst, motiv, or moe's alley.

[santacruzlocals](http://www.reddit.com/r/santacruzlocals) will have suggestions as well. there's not much beach camping (that is legal), but if you go up 1 a few miles past davenport and whatnot those beaches aren't patrolled heavily as long as you are discreet about parking your car homeless style. I see you like sushi from thatawesomedude's post, I used to like what is now sushi totoro on mission, but it I do not eat there anymore since the old japanese couple that owned it sold it to some fool, you could try mobo downtown or the pink godzilla over by 41 st

The Boardwalk thing can get a little touristy- But on Wednesdays I actually enjoy going there because they have free projection movies ON the beach. The show classics, and tomorrow they show the Princess Bride. I usually bring a few beers, sit on the beach with friends and watch the flick. Its also dollar ride night. http://beachboardwalk.com/movies/

For excellent Greek go to either Vasili's on mission, or Greek downtown. If you can make it over to Aptos, Ambrosia is excellent Indian (puts Sitar and Royal Taj to shame).

Try an acupuncture treatment at [Five Branches University](http://www.fivebranches.edu/health-centers/1184) teaching clinic. I prefer faculty in rounds b/c it's teacher treating you while the students observe or the senior interns b/c they're almost done with the program and need to treat as many people as they can.
Applying to summer camp jobs is exhausting! Any summer camps you would recommend?

Camp HIdden Falls in Soquel, CA- I taught wilderness skills and worked in the kitchen, and slept on this great porch among beautiful redwoods! It's been ten years but I'm sure it's still there. Ps have fun on your adventures!

Apply to the Student Conservation Association! It's probably too late for this summer, but it's an awesome place to keep in mind for next year!
