Since this is more of a health issue than a fear issue, I would approach it from a medical view. Hydrotherapy was mentioned, and i second that idea wholeheartedly. You don't have to back off on the treats, you just exercise the dog more, in a non-impac tful way. Hydrotherapy protects joints in older dogs, while allowing the dog to strengthen muscles and work off unwanted weight. Cocoa has a torn ACL. She is working on a kong filled with peanut butter while she walks. You can see in the video how her back leg muscles are being worked. http://youtu.be/u3J7 q7K6 pgk

Fran she is my Vet, she was formerly at Guilderland Animal Hospital and left to open her own practice. She is GREAT! She is not only concerned and compassionate about the animals she is caring for but she is that concerned with the pets owners as well. Her entire staff is great!!
