Looking for a place to get a tattoo/piercing I've been reading online about places like Slave to the Needle and Laughing Buddha and I've read their reviews but I wanted...

I had a good experience at Slave to the Needle at their Ballard location. :) u747 posted a good link for other opinions though!

Best outings for kids right now? Moving from AZ to WA next week - will be living in Pierce County. What are some of the best outdoor spots I can take the kids ages 8-10...

The most popular spots I see for skimboarding when I am out is Chambers Creek in Tacoma and Dash Point in Federal Way. You'll need to watch the tides and understand them for best conditions. This spotfinder has a lot more locations around Tacoma. https://dbskimboards.com/skimboarding-spot-finder

Pt. Defiance, of course! Owens beach there is dog friendly. Lots of beautiful trails, gardens and views. Northwest Trek might be a good day out.
corasaurus replied:
Pt Defiance Park has walking trails, beach, gardens, kids activities, and a zoo and aquarium (with paid admission, the rest of the park is free.) Northwest Trek would be a great excursion, too. There services have changed since COVID, you can now drive your own vehicle into the area where animals are free roaming.

The carbon river area of rainier isn't much more than an hour away. Also, the South fork Skokomish in Olympic national forest. National forests are way cheaper than national parks but you'll need a pass either way. The middle fork Snoqualmie river is also about 1 hour away and has some great hikes with nice mountain views (when visibility improves). Also tiger, cougar and squeak mtns in Issaquah. Check wta.org. Much more than an hour from you, but the tubal cain mine trail up near sequim has remnants of a crashed bomber and an abandoned mine.

I would also go to Port Townsend and go to the beach at Fort Worden. It’s an hour and a half, but it’s a great beach

I have you so covered.
-Kobayashi park & creek. Wading might have to wait for a warm day but, if you walk along the path along the creek, you come to a spot where you have to wade to go further. But it’s shallow, and you can follow twists and turns for quite a long ways. Extremely fun for kids that age to figure out how to make it past the next bend or over or under this or that log. And there’s cool rope swings. Water shoes required. This creek system turns into chambers creek which I hear people do skimboarding at, altho i don’t know anything about that.
-Titlow beach at low tide is awesome to explore and check out the marine life in the shallow water and tide pools. This is also true of pwens beach at point defiance.
-Point Defiance is generally great for kids that age- the pedestrian bridge from ruston with the slides, the 5 mile loop area (great for picnics), the japanese gardens & pagodas, the old historic fort, and the zoo is open if you reserve your ticket. You can really spend a whole day there and not get bored.
-When you can take a trip, going up to the Olympic peninsula to Ruby Beach and places like that is awesome.

For skim boarding i dont know about renting them but chambers creek was paradise back in my time.
Penelepillar replied:
The nearest CA style beach suitable for skimboarding is out on the coast, about 2.5-3 hours away from Tacoma. Puget Sound is 1) Polluted as fuck 2) Cold as fuck 3) Muddy or rocky, not sandy. Barnacles will tear your feet wide open.

I’ve gotten my kids into mountain biking since covid started. Lots of trails around and lots of fun.
LemonCucumbers replied:
This isn’t as exciting, it’s simple, but when I was a kid I loved playing at the Fort Steilacoom park. I don’t know if that’s safe because of COVID, though. It does have a big open field for playing other games like soccer or frisbee though!
Hi, anyone have a recommendation for a place that does ear cartilage piercing for a teen (16)? Ideally I would be able to send her off with a written letter of consent...
Kate R. replied:
I believe you do need to have a parent present to sign the forms. I'm partial to Laughing Buddha in Capitol Hill.
Nikole H. replied:
I really liked Pierced Hearts on Roosevelt but I believe a parent needs to accompany to sign consent form.
Laurie B. replied:
My teen really likes Deep Roots tattoo on the ave. Multiple piercings over the years including cartilage. Yes parent/guardian needs to accompany. And then sometimes the parent gets persuaded by that teen to get their own piercing
Fatimah S. replied:
For my nose ring for both myself n my eldest we got it at Laughing Budda but if your teen would like another sets of earrings it’s much cheaper to go to Vy hair salon mlk n Morgan it will include a pair of standard sterile studs for like $10.
