Does anyone know where I can check cloud altitudes for weather? We're planning St Helens for this weekend and I was wondering if the clouds will be lower than 6k or...

I roughly use this http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mdl/forecast/graphics/MAV/MAV.BCIG_000.html but honestly can't attest to reliability. I also check % cloud cover on noaa/weather.gov. curious to see what everyone else checks, I'd love a really reliable resource. Mountain forecast has forecasts for specific elevations which can give you a hint but also not always reliable.

https://www.windytv.com/ has a Cloud Base data layer. That'd probably be helpful to you, but I haven't used that layer before so I can't speak to its usefulness or accuracy. I use the Temp, Wind & Rain layers often for my own planning

I just hiked up Crater Lakes which is a bit south of Twisp near Methow off of 153. There was a large firepit up there, but also some pretty good looking camping spots near the first larger lake, and maybe the second smaller one. I didn't hike around it as much. I'm not sure exactly how dispersed you're looking for but if you wanted to, there were some places to go off trail that would make for a good camp spot if you were inclined to do so. Murhut Falls - short hike Rocky Brook falls - just bout 100 yards off road Mt Walker - 2mi, 2000ft hike up, or just drive to the top for some great views Heart of the Forest campground has a nice trail and some nice wooded sites just south of Port Angeles then from here head west, and check out places like Crecent Lake, Madison Falls, around towards Forks and check out Rialto Beach area, Hoh Rainforest, Ruby Beach, and continue S from there to check out other spots long the coast including the Cave Tree on the beach at the Kalaloch Campground and the Quinault Rain Forest area.. Table Mountain on the Washington side is one of my favorites. It'll kick your butt, but it has great views of the gorge. Dog Mountain is a classic, but once the balsamroot dries up, it's just another steep, crowded gorge hike. One of my faves in Oregon is Wahclella Falls. Not very remote or hardcore, but it's pretty magical (I've heard multiple people describe it as something out of LOTR); it would be best-visited on a weekday to avoid crowds.
Zaffod B. replied:
Agreed. And Jessica brings most of the inspiration to our hiking adventures, so you can trust she knows what's good. I will also say that Table Mountain is best described as strenuous. Start that one early in the day and bring lots of water. I'm not saying don't do it, but look up the stats and make sure it fits your enjoyment level and schedule before you commit to it. If you find yourself in or near Cascade Locks after a long day on the trail, and if you're the type who craves beer after such a day, Thunder Island Brewing is a great way to celebrate. (and it's on the Oregon side!)

Lori, check out Dog Tired Ranch on Arizona Horses & Tack. Also, Julie Roland Radke on Arizona Horse Network. Both have full hooks ups. If you're working Chandler Regional Julie's place will be mostly freeway & against traffic. Good luck. Would love to pick your brain about traveling as a nurse w/ horses sometime!!
