Dear hivemind: What mattresses might you recommend?
I'm leaving behind my last one (due to chance of mold spore contamination), and looking for another pronto,...

Frame-wise, I had this and liked it a lot: http://smile.amazon.com/Pragma-Bed-Simple.../dp/B00F2EVLCU It has a good amount of space for under bed storage, really strong/firm (don't need to get a box frame), and folds up tiny for storage. It isn't a full on bed, so it does not look fancy though.

Ev Ilkimmel sells them

For the love of God, do not get a used mattress or frame. Bed bugs are rampant and people don't always know that they have them. Plus they cost $1000 s to eradicate. They are not harmful but a huge pain in the ass that you don't need. I second Ikea and no foam. Mattresses contain a lot of toxic crap and foam is the #1 culprit. Also I got a natural latex mattress for my son and had to return it because the smell was so strong (I have chemical sensitivities). I just got a wood frame and spring mattress for my mom's aide at ikea and it was under $250 total. The mattress was $87. Pretty sure it was this one. http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/art/10219630/

There is also the sofa bed, a bit more but also a couch. http://m.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/spr/89874376/
I'm on the hunt for a couple pieces of furniture & I'm wondering if there's a used/consignment furniture place somewhere on the south end? I'd love to find somewhere...

Furniture Stores in Sac Area I am looking for a good quality furniture store for the best price. I've been to Ashley and some of those "Furniture Warehouse" type places...

I've purchased some furniture at Naturewood. Not the cheapest but they have some good brands. I've successfully haggled some decent prices on a few items.

vintage shops / higher end second hand shops or if your feeling lucky most thrift shops. you can get lightly used furniture made well for 10-20% r/thriftstorehauls has good examples. I got a down sofa that is very comfortable and in pristine condition from Snowline Hospice in Folsom for only $60. First Saturday of the month is half off everything

We buy mostly vintage, but I've been eying reproduction pieces from Joybird. https://joybird.com/

Furniture USA will price match any retail store within 90 miles. I was able to get an Ashley Furniture set that was $950 for only $550 after finding a better deal online.
Toxik916 replied:
They have some low end junk up to expensive designer brands. Pretty much something for every budget. The couches I got are Ashley and they are quality.

Living Spaces at 1313 Broadway has a surprisingly good selection and reasonable prices.

Costco and Macy’s during sales. I went to Ashley, Becks, Furniture USA, Furniture CO, and RC Riley. They all end up costing more or same with lower quality.

I like I5 Furniture Warehouse off Richards. The owner there can customize anything you see in his store. That said, some of it comes from Ashley. We ordered a sectional couch from him and we were able to choose the colors and fabric. It has been great and we have had it for probably 7 years now. Outside of a place like that, or like Ikea, check out Antique shops. I bought a beautiful dresser for about $300 from a refurb place in Cameron Park, and there is another antique shop with a lot of really cool stuff called "Six Yellow Chairs" off Mother Lode (Take the Ponderosa exit from 50). Outside of those kinds of places, check out Naturewood in Rancho, or Beck's.

My couch is American made from Scandinavian Design. Six years in and it’s held up very well even though my kid uses it as a trampoline when I’m not looking. Covers are washable too! It wasn’t that expensive and the RC store has a clearance section.

Scandinavian Designs is great

If youre looking for couches, these guys did a marvelous job with a custom couch and for loads cheaper than what other places offered. https://www.mysofafactory.com/

Costco. Check out different stores as the stock may be slightly different. I regret buying a sectional from the Furniture USA in South Sacramento. It's been about a year and the couch is already degraded. The material is pilling and the cushions are starting to become deformed. Never again.

I've gotten a few different furniture type things from Costco. Never had any quality issues.

When I got a contract in Puyallup I contacted these people. They had contacts out there, and put me in touch with an apartment community 5 minutes from the hospital that rented me a 1 bedroom unfurnished top floor apt for $1005/month and then I took the economy furniture rental package from People's. All in all it cost me $1400/mth. http://www.peoples1.com/index.html
Any recommendations for vegan pillows? I'm looking to replace the ones on my bed. I want something nice, obviously not made with feathers, and preferably local.
