I've seen other conversations in here where there IS another option for internet service and I believe, phone, besides CHARTER AND CENTURYLINK...Can someone please tell...
Gabriel D. replied:
I would call Woody@Vision Broadband, at (719) 955-0122 or see http://vwire1.com/elements/internet-service-packages/ Please let them know I sent ya.. and NO.. I do not get anything for it!
Priscilla D. replied:
I can't answer those questions for you. I've spoken with him once and he's a VERY nice person and VERY helpful and I didn't have to press 1 for English, or any other numbers to talk to him. Centurylink is too expensive for me, and Charter I've flat had my fill of. Last week, they were out to hook up cable for me (but only so I can watch football....I'm going back to Chromecast after the Super Bowl) and Charter's customer service CHANGED MY PHONE NUMBER ON ME. Somewhere between 9:00 pm and 1:00 am last night, my phone and internet went out on me. The guy that came out to fix it was a VERY NICE person, and come to find out, the modem that they changed out on my phone last week for the latest and greatest, brand new modem they put in, shorted out completely. :/ I was without internet and phone 'til after 4 pm today, and all because of Charter. Folks, just 'cause ya "press 1 for English" doesn't necessarily mean that the person on the other end is gonna UNDERSTAND English. So, I suggest ya call Vision Broadband at 955-0122 and actually speak to a REAL, LIVE PERSON for the word go. He REALLY IS a nice, and very helpful person and can explain the service far better than I.

When it comes to home phone service, I ported my telephone to flowroute.com Then All I did was buy a inexpensive Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA) [ Like the Linksys PAP2 ] and set it up to provide my dial tone.. I get carrier grade performance, and very inexpensive rates.. But I'm a geek and do lots of weird stuff with Asterisk, and VOIP anyway..
Just wondering - does anyone have any strong opinions on which internet service provider is best in our neighborhood? I'm looking to get rid of my insanely large cable...

I have a Mohu antennae and get 45 channels. I also have an Apple TV for Netflix and HBO now. You can also get streaming with Sling TV.
John A. replied:
Deborah Rubano There are some reception problems on a few channels. MY guess is each TV tuner handles signal loss in different ways. We just get a window saying "No Signal" then the channel will return. Antennae TV is less than perfect, but then so is a big cable bill.
Becky M. replied:
Thanks Mark! I'm not too worried about Comcast - I'm originally from NY and recently went toe to toe with the post office in queens and won. My friends tell me it's like I'm channelling my inner mob wife - Big Ang.
Deborah R. replied:
Rena Luelle they pulled a bait and switch with me when I originally signed up. It took 4 months to straighten out. I have a phone number that bypass the BS if anyone needs it PM me.
John A. replied:
I recently dropped Comcast Cable and phone. We rarely used the phone and the cable was crazily expensive for what we got. I bought the Roku 3 and this antennae. No regrets from me. If we ever grow tired of the TV we get from the antenna and the Internet there is always Hulu for $7.99 a month. http://www.amazon.com/Mohu-Amplified-Attic-Outdoor-Antenna/dp/B00AVWKUXE/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1431796513&sr=8-6&keywords=mohu+leaf+50+amplified+indoor+hdtv+antenna
We're moving back into our Lakewood/Seward Park home after 8 years in Europe. We need EVERYTHING and Seattle seems to have changed utterly in the time we've been away....
Cathy G. replied:
We dropped Comcast TV in favor of a $39 indoor antenna from Costco. Works GREAT if you are okay with about 40 stations, some in Spanish, Arabic and I don't know what else! Sure more than we grew up with. Then we bought a new Motorola modem for $70 at Costco, Comcast says that will save another $8 a month for us in rental fees. Someday we will dump our $25 a month landline. . . .
Tiffany L. replied:
If by hardwired, you mean the coax cable from the wall is attached, you can do like I did and just buy this: http://www.netgear.com/.../cable-modems-routers/CMD31T.aspx
Dina M. replied:
For TV, I use Direct TV.60 ish per month. Most channels... No HBO nor Showtime. Pretty happy with it....had it for almost 7 years.

CenturyLink and Comcast are the two most common services although I think you need to have a dish put in for CenturyLink. I use Comcast and it is fairly good.
Suggestions for month to month internet service in Santa Rosa, ca
Amy E. replied:
Santa Rosa has quite a few Comcast hotspots. You can find them just by turning on your wifi and pay daily/weekly/monthly. When I was there I got it nice and clear in my apt.

I'm actually using Earthlink right now. Haven't had any problems with them. I bought my own modem and wireless router. $29.95/month. You could also try Time Warner or Xfinity. I paid less than $50 for cable and internet with them. No contract.
Our 6 yr-old modem is apparently too antique for XBox Live, so it's time to jump to another ISP (I don't want to pay CenturyLink for another modem). Can anyone recommend...
