Hi. Looking for recommendations on new tires for a 2015 Subaru Forester. I have a quote from the dealership but was wondering if anyone had better experience using...
Sunny L. replied:
Pretty much anywhere is going to be cheaper than the dealership. I use Les Schwab because they went way out of their way to get me custom wheels several years ago, but their prices aren't the best. I've replaced my tires on my truck twice, same model tire each time. $1400 at Discount Tire and $1800 at Les Schwab.

Les Schwab has awesome service.

https://www.discounttire.com/ or Costco and I generally prefer Michelin Tires. I am definitely find winter tires work are a huge improvement this winter over my all-seasons.
Khris R. replied:
I always buy from www.tirerack.com and ship to a local tire shop for mounting. They have reviews and test results for popular tires so you can pick the exact features that are important to you eg durability vs winter performance vs road noise etc
Michael J. replied:
The Michelin Premier LTX tested better in the snow than the Yokohama and Kumho comps. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/videoDisplay.jsp?ttid=203&videoID=409
LeAnne L. replied:
TireRack.com is my go-to. You can order the tires and have them delivered to a local shop, who will put them on for a small fee.
Lizzy C. replied:
Led Schwab all the way. Best customer service, know how to really fit tires which is super important, no flim flam, and very understanding of your needs and budget and will work to get you the best tires in your perimeters. I’ve been using them for over a decade and trust them completely. Costco has ok prices but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.
Merritt S. replied:
I have used Les Schwab since my first car in 1986. They are the Gold Standard.
Craig L. replied:
Just put yokohama tires on last fall. 20 + trips over Stevens pass in all conditions and really happy with them. Purchased at Discount Tires. .Had Michelin tires from Costco on before and these are as good/better
Anna D. replied:
I second Discount Tire. I have all season tires on my Rav4 and travel over Stevens Pass all the time. They rotate and repair their tires once purchased. I've had only positive experiences with them for 5+ years. With my Expedition (before my Toyota), too.
Ritz N. replied:
You cant go wrong with Michelin X-Ice Xi3 or Blizzak WS80 for winter tires. I got Michelin ones from DT recently.. and swap out and use stock ones for summer.
Hello members out of Los Angeles,
can you recommend a good bicycle touring store in LA? Need to replace my tires...
Cheers
Feix from Pedal the World
William C. replied:
REI is pretty good, but if you're going to be in LA for a few days or so, use amazon.com and wait for them to be delivered... especially if you're on a budget.

William C. replied:
Performance Bicycles has it all. And they have a few locations.
Ken F. replied:
Depends on where in LA? Topanga Creek Bicycles is close to PCH. A good climb to get there, but a store with a strong emphasis on touring. Only place in LA to get Arkels! Need a place to stay while passing through?
Who's got a Honda Insight (hybrid) - where do you recommend to go for new tires in Bellevue-Seattle? My 4 year old car need new tires and I'm looking for the best value!...
Matti S. replied:
Les Schwab could work as well. Although TireRack has some great deals with set prices for local installation (and drop-ship).
Matti S. replied:
Costco or http://www.tirerack.com/
Peter B. replied:
Les Schwab has better popcorn in their waiting rooms, but I've always had good luck and service at Discount and at Big O. Any of these will service you well.
Arlene T. replied:
Love Les Schwab, 18 years and counting, they are fair and good with the truth
Any suggestions for 'must sees' in Reno? I've been to Tahoe once so far (I'm gonna go more once I get new tires), but if anyone knows of some great places to eat/hang...
Sean S. replied:
I've got a few lol. Junkee is a must see local consignment shop and there's Simple Icecream Sandwiches just next door (owned by the same people). Salty-Savory-Sweet is a cool spice shop and the owner is local and has traveled all over herself. Right next door is Old world coffee who makes amazing pour overs (I'm sure their other stuff is good too). There's also the river walk which is cool on a nice day and is near some shops and such, including Hub Coffee Roasters and Dorinda's Chocolates (little pricey, but some of the best candy I've ever tried). For a nice sit down place there is the Wild River Grille and nothing on their menu was disappointing. If you like books, there is Dharma books and Sundance books (the latter right across from Pegs...and yes their breakfast is amazing). There are a bunch of other cool restaurants and bars in the area, but these were the first that came to mind. This isn't including the monthly bar crawl the city does. Went to Zombie crawl in one of those inflatable T-rex costumes, it was a good time! Wild Garlic is decent pizza with a laid back vibe with a large bottle of honey at each table to dip your crust in (apparently its a local thing). For pricier pizza and tasty italian, you could visit Campo. Also along the food train of thought, if you like sushi you've contracted at the right city because most of the places have all you can eat including a free bottle of Sake per person on select nights. Outdoor stuff obviously includes Tahoe. We went up there several times. I recommend doing the drive around the lake and stopping off at emerald bay (though be careful because the road narrows a little and doesn't have guard rails at one point just past the bay). There's also a bunch of trails around, my favorite being the Hunter-creek trail which is a easy/moderate day hike. Virginia city about an hour south is an interesting place with some neat shops and history, but for me I much preferred Tahoe. I was also told by staff nurses that Pyramid lake is really cool and supposedly haunted, though I never managed to see it myself (next time). You can do a few of the casinos for the experience, but honestly there's a ton more to Reno than just gambling. Hope this gets you started! Happy travels!!
Holly A. replied:
They do a wine walk every month and it's a blast! If you like beer they have a lot of microbrews here. Tahoe is a no brainer love it there. If you are going to hit the casinos I recommend GSR or Atlantis or Peppermill they are not downtown and are a bit cleaner and safer. They have some good shows that come to the casinos too. For bigger events visit visitRenoTahoe.com

Sherri! Calm down, its ok, let the manager know its poor buisness, and they should offer you a loaner car until proper work on your car is completed. Also, that $500 should have covered your parts & part of labor for the work you requested! The other work should be covered by the buisness. Contact District Manager of Store, and tell them what happened!
Surprise! This morning, picked up a nail in my tire on my way to work. Can anyone recommend a tire repair place in Alexandria Va?

It's in Arlington (not Alexandria), but I've had great experiences at Automotive Express Used Tires. They're just a few blocks off 395, so not too bad to get to.
