Good therapists in Birmingham Does anyone know some good therapists in Birmingham? Doesn’t matter if they’re on the NHS or private. I have been struggling with a lot...
Anarkajo replied:
It would help if you could share what you are looking for. IAPT is only six session and you can't get a new referral until 6 months after your last one. If you are willing to go private use the BACP or UKCP websites (these are accrediting bodies for therapist and counsellors) and will help you define your search parameters more specific. Also please see a couple of therapist before settling on one, most will offer a free consultation to see if you can work together and allow you to ask questions about their way of working. Hope that is helpful.
cinnamonportfolio replied:
Might be worth trying a self-referral to IAPT? https://www.bsmhft.nhs.uk/our-services/birmingham-healthy-minds/ and in the meantime it might be worth trying the Silvercloud app if it covers the kind of support you're after: https://ftb.silvercloudhealth.com/signup/

https://www.forwardthinkingbirmingham.org.uk This is the local NHS 0-25 service. I’d recommend having a look; you can self refer online. I can’t speak as to their waitlists though.

Recommendations for a good therapist? Can anyone recommend a good psychologist/therapist in the Birmingham area?
oneeasypod replied:
Please PM me. I work in this field. There is no "good" therapist. There is the right person for the right person and the person for the right problem(s). I can also tell you the "therapists" to avoid like the plague.

I think she is probably really specific to what I needed (came out of an abusive relationship and also really needed to deal with some fucked up family stuff that was never addressed during my childhood), but Susan Corbin was INCREDIBLY helpful for me. Can't recommend her enough.

oneeasypod is right - you have to find someone whose expertise and personality matches well with you. Mollie Kelly Thomas and Denise Fournet have both been incredibly helpful for me.

I see Keith Abrams, he's a mix of talking and listening that works for me. I agree with what others have said, it depends on what you are going for and if you click so to speak.
