VEGAN CATS & DOGS * "Why Vegan Pets?": "Previously, there was a mistaken belief that dogs are predominantly carnivorous and cats obligate carnivore, eating only meat and small amounts of vegetables. However, my studies indicate that companion animals can live a healthy and active life on vegetarian or vegan food." * "Can a Cat be Vegan?": "The best time to begin your cat on a vegan diet is when he is a kitten, but older cats can convert easily too. Make any changes to your cats diet SLOWLY." * "Helping Cats Go Vegan": "This page has been written by someone who has had many years experience in helping (or trying to help) cats and kittens go vegan. The one thing to cultivate is patience and a positive attitude. Cats are very sensitive creatures who pick up on negative moods and anger very quickly. There is no evidence that cats have any problems digesting plant proteins instead of animal ones if the transition is made slowly and backed up by good nutrition and a source of taurine." [good advice] * "Vegetarian Pets": "With a little extra attention, most pets can be vegetarians. Dogs are fairly easily converted to vegetarianism, while cats require taurine, an amino acid usually aquired from animal sources. But, with the addition of taurine supplements to the diet, cats too can be vegetarian." [useful links] * "Vegan Cats FAQ" [useful summary, links, products] * "Meatless Meals for Cats and Dogs": [marvelous fact sheet from PETA]

Vegan cat food does exist http://www.veggiepets.com/ has some. I don't know enough research about it, sorry. Cats will still hunt and kill regardless of their diet, though, so I doubt you could raise a fully vegan cat!
The S. replied:
There is certainly evidence that cats can be as healthy or healthier on a well-formulated plant-based food as on other processed cat foods. Many commerical meat-based cat foods are too high in carbohydrate, and many are fortified with synthetic taurine, soya protein etc. You can read discussion of the evidence at http://www.vegepets.info/ thanks, Amanda

Anyone know a vet thats open today (or on Monday) that do cremation and will do instalment payments?
Thank you!
Elisa F. replied:
Blacks Vets is open 24/7, they have a few about Oldbury, Quinton etc but the Dudley one is the one open 24/7. Not sure if they do instalments though.
Sarah C. replied:
Manor vets in Halesowen are open 7 days a week
Polly B. replied:
unfortunately cremation is usually outsourced so they have to pay up front which means they arent likely to offer installments. If you are a regular at a vets they may make an exception as you'd be known and trusted but very few vets will offer installment payments full stop if they dont know you. If you approach a pet cremation service direct its usually cheaper (up to £50 cheaper) Not sure if this would cover cremation but might be worth looking into.... https://www.carefreecredit.co.uk/for-pet-owners/
Jayne F. replied:
Recommend Lordswood Vets, opposite Swimming baths. Very helpful and will advise on options but as a previous comment think you will find cremation is outsourced
