can any of you recommend a bakery in seattle where one could buy a tasty and not-too-sweet chocolate cake?

Sorry for the late reply! Some good options are Bakery Nouveau, Macrina, or Hot Cakes.
Best Bakeries?? Please let me know your favorite/ the best bakery you've been to in Boston. I've lived here forever but I always stay close to home. I want to explore...

Clear Flour Bakery in Brookline

Japonaise Bakery off of St. Mary’s in Brookline. They have a lot of traditional Japanese pastries (lots of red bean and matcha) and really awesome American pastries (they have something called a chocolate horn which is literally just a long pastry filled with chocolate cream. Get it). The staff is always really nice and you can see them constantly turning out pastries in the back. Not too expensive, but the quality is outstanding.

Cafe Madeline in the South End (Columbus Ave + Greenwich Park), has great pastries—particularly croissants. Near Mass Ave (orange line), Prudential (green line), or Columbus Ave (#1 bus)

Sweet Tooth in Southie on Broadway. Got my wedding cake and many other sweets there.

I've been documenting my quest to eat every chocolate chip cookie in the Boston area [here](https://www.instagram.com/chocolatechipboston/) if that helps!

Royal pastry in Cambridge on Cambridge street. You can take the green line to lechmere and hop on the 69 a few stops, it is right after the train tracks. You can also take the Red to harvard and take the 69 down cambridge street which makes it right before the train tracks if you are coming from that direction. Lechmere is closer. They have the best cakes. Been going there for years and years since I was a kid to get all kinds of great stuff.

Daniels Bakery in Brighton is amazing (the 57 bus stops right in front), lots of standard pastries with a few Brazilian ones thrown in randomly. Get the apricot danish, best I've ever had!

I'll second recommendations like Japonaise (they used to have a stall in the Porter Exchange Building - the Ichigo Cream and Adzuki Cream are both exceptional). Cookie Time Bakery (the unfortunate new name for Lakota) in Arlington Heights makes the best cookies in the area. You can also get them at Pemberton Farms, Formaggio Kitchen, Cardullo's and a few other spots. The general selection of Baked Goods at Petsi Pie (go to the Beacon Street near Porter location) is great - their Pies are solid, but they do a wide range of traditional baked goods - I'd highly recommend their Blueberry coffee cake (especially if it was just fresh baked), or their Apple cake. Barismo on Broadway north of Central has extremely good Croissants. (They renamed that location from Dwelltime). Three Little Figs on Highland Ave east of Davis has a very wide assortment of great baked goods - their biscuits are top notch - I'd highly recommend both just a biscuit with a strawberry rhubarb compote or their Lavender biscuit. The person below who called out Maria's pastry is correct - they have the best Cannoli in the area, although Bova has a particularly delicious florentine cannoli and is open 24 hours.

For italian pastries, nothing beats Papa Genos in Brockton.
PersisPlain replied:
I’m a big fan of Bova’s in the North End - they’re open 24 hours and they have a ton of old fashioned Italian-American cookies (anise and lemon!) plus regular pastries, cake, and a donut-cream puff hybrid that is ungodly delicious.

For western pastries, cookies, and cakes, I like Flour (any location works). For Chinese pastries, I like Ho Yuen. Tatte is also great for tarts.

DJs Market is the only place in Boston to get freshly made Pączki (paunch-kee). They’re big doughnuts and they’ll change your life. They also do a bunch of other Polish baked goods too and they’re no longer cash only.

Gotta say Tatte. Far and away the best blueberry muffin I've had. The morning buns and monkey bread is phenomenal as well.
