I remember both places Joseph. My maternal grandfather ate lunch at Smith’s Cafeteria every weekday. He would frequently invite me or one of my siblings to join him. Robertson’s Tea Room - lovely lunchtime dining.

The Ewing cafe was once called Vicks's Cafe. In the 40's and early 50's it was own and ran by my grandparents. Victor and Katharine Kuzmic. We'll know for their Hungarian food..

Wow! So many memories! When I was little I used to love looking at the lobsters in the tank at my moms favorite restaurant, the Whistle Stop! On the school bus, we would pass Macri's on LWE in the big White House. The Toddle House at the Motel on the then US 31 across from the hospital. Ate many Sunday morning breakfasts at The Deluxe Sandwich Shop by the hospital. Giuseppe's on LaSalle and Rocco's were/are always favorites for pizza. Best meatball Sandwich goes to Tina and Joe's (where Manderin House is now) best fish fry to Mikes on 23, best grotto atmosphere to The Capri, best original Golden Arches to McDonalds on North Michigan, best leather horseshoe booths to Eddy's and best place to get engaged, The Loft!

My grandfather, C.E. Kemble, was a mason and bricklayer in South Bend for many years. He came to live with us when I was eight. He and his friends would stop at Walt's Stag on South Michigan St.after work. He ate often at Cira's and at a small tavern on Miami St. called the Chevron. Used to have matchbooks from these places. Nabicht Cafeteria was also a favorite. My favorite place where my dad would take me was The Moderne.

I remember Ewing Cafe.

Used to love to get malts at The Moderne on Washington Str. which,of course, is another downtown parking lot.

The Oldenburg Inn on US31 south.

The 31 Inn tavern in Roseland, owned by my Aunt and Uncle in the 50's and 60's. Later to be V.F.W. Post 624, now Casper's coin and jewelry. GREAT hamburgers, back in the day!

I am not sure if these are the right names so feel to correct me but i asked my grandma & she said the chili bowl & chat & nibble were popular for lunch if you worked at Ball Ban

The Mint Julep was a unique restaurant.

The New Sunnymede Restaurant - Twyckyham at Mishawaka Ave.

Liz Rekos Lewis Farr That restaurant was "The Lafayette Grill" owned by John Rezos. John and Milt Kourbettis often ate there along with me and my Dad.

Yes--Japanese restaurant called Woochi. Upscale--LaSalle Grille and Club Navarre. Tippecanoe Place (Studebaker home) is still a draw. Fiddler's Hearth (Irish themed--don't know if it's specifically ND). It's a BIG college town now--more so than when you lived here. Come with them; you'll be shocked!

Maxi's Barn on Ireland near 31 just North the 20 bypass. Fiddlers Hearth in downtown SB. Roc's as long as everyone is over 21 or Smith Downtown in Mishawaka. Both are on Corner of Main and Linclonway in Mishawaka next door to each other and not to far from Doc's

You can't beat Sorin's and Rohr's inside The Morris Inn for true Notre Dame dining. Tippecanoe Place for local history.

Urban Garden Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 10-2. Some of the vendors: Bendix Coffee, She Sells, PopStyle Gourmet Popcorn Shoppe, Patrick's Garden Produce, South Bend Homestead, Bizzy Oven Mitt Bakery, The Science Barn, Jimmy Mac's Rib Shack, M & S Handmade Designs, and others that don't have a FB page. Chef Robert Irvine has a pretty good success rate w/ featured restaurants (something like 60 of 72 still open & profitable).

Salsa's is good. So is Mazatlan. I miss Don Pablos though. I've heard Puerto Vallarta is good though.

When we came to S.B we always ate at Don Pablos

Puerto Vallarta is great and so is El Arriero. We frequent both places often.

Hacienda USED TO BE good back in 80's. It was the place to go. Now I can barely stand to choke it down. I want Don Pablo's back!

My aunt Donna Marks' family owned way back in the day.
