Better body club does classes at various venues around the area such as warsash victory hall and abshot community centre. You can pay for the month for all classes included or pay as you go. It's £5 per class but I pay £45 up front and that gets me 10 classes with no expiry. Very talented and motivated instructors and all sorts of classes from yoga and pilates to HIIT and insanity! There's no joining fee and everyone is super friendly. Check out www.betterbodyclub.co.uk I also can't rate enjoy fitness and new life training with Mark Mayes highly enough for personal training and more pay as you go classes.
Mark M. replied:
What you looking for Crystal? I have a Personal Training Studio in Warsash that does PAYG classes, www.enjoyfitnessstudio.Co.UK
Crystal B. replied:
Just somewhere I can get fit with good equipment really Mark Mayes

What's the best/cheapest gyms? Is the uni gym any good?
Beth P. replied:
I joined the uni gym last year, I liked it because it was quiet so you didn't have to wait for anything. Most of my friends were at The Gym in the centre though but I dunno what that's like. The uni gym also has a special offer at the beginning of the year, last year it was £99 for 12 months which was pretty good:)
Izzy H. replied:
Hi Kris, I work for Sport Solent - we run the uni gym which is located at Sports Centre St Mary's. We will be running a special offer over Freshers that is exactly as Beth said, £99 a year, which will entitle you to unlimited gym use. Check out the photo album that we just put up on the Sport Solent Facebook page to see recently photos: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.836073753078574.1073741868.413641785321775&type=1 Find out more on our website: http://www.solent.ac.uk/sport/fitness/fitness-homepage.aspx
Can anyone recommend a decent gym? My local gym recently shut down so I'm looking to find a new one, can anyone recommend a particularly good gym in the Southampton...
Lambinio replied:
There's 'the gym' on the high street. Open 24 hours a day, £15.99 a month, no contract. I've never been to that particular 'the gym', but the one in Plymouth was good. Especially the open 24 hours part.
britsonlydrinktea replied:
Highfield Gym is well equipped, but is attached to the University of Southampton, Highfield Campus. Obviously it's good if you're a student, but does get stupidly busy when us students wake up, and it's not as cheap if you're not alumni, staff or student.
JackAndAHat replied:
Depends what exactly you're looking for. Any specifics? I go to The Quay - it's local, cheap (£15.99) and has a reasonable range of equipment. But the draw for me is that it's disability-friendly, which might not cover what other people are looking for. They have the usual treadmills, bikes, weight machines, a small climbing wheel, rowing machines etc, plus a room with the more serious weights.

There's LA Fitness not far from the common: http://www.lafitness.co.uk/gym/southampton/

Theres this like real cheap gym in shirley called easy gym, part of the easy jet franchise. It used to be where "fitness first" was on shirley highstreet. It was like real cheap when it first started like, £7 a month but idk what its like now you should look them up. I can imagine its quite busy though, but its budget.
tinaril replied:
Depends on where you are. Even though the area is a bit rough, St Mary's Leisure Centre has a decent enough gym and I think it's pretty cheap. You can get a membership through Solent uni. http://www.solent.ac.uk/sport/fitness/memberships.aspx
enervation replied:
I go to Pure gym in Bitterne, don't really have any complaints about it at all, and I really like that you're not tied into a contract.
Diezed replied:
The Gym on the Highstreet, good facilities, no pricks, clean... i recommend it. See more staff walking around there, than any others i've been too. Let me refer you if your interested, send me a message!
Does anyone know of any gymnastics clubs in the area for a 4yr old in the area please?
Hannah B. replied:
Southampton gymnastics club in the grounds of Redbridge school has the only purpose built gym in the area offering classes for all children from baby gym, tumble bobs, gym bobs and recreational gymnastics through to their fantastic acro elite squad. My eldest daughter started when she was 6 and now is in the elite squad. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It has sprung floors, tumble tracks and a foam pit which is great fun. Their website is www.sotongym.co.uk or phone no 02380 529952.
Nikki P. replied:
Depends what you're looking for and how much you any to pay but we go to Gymtots at Totton Leisure Centre:-)

Zac J. replied:
Don't go near Active4 less Havant, its a awful gym and the owner is on his high horse, told me I couldn't wear cut shorts to the gym, and you're not allowed to have your phone out or he comes and 'tells you off'. If you want a decent gym use Activhealth Fitness Centre in Langstone.
Uni gym isn't that good.. There's a gym called "The Gym" £10 a month and free classes.. Most of us students go there
Izzy H. replied:
Hi Alice, I work for Sport Solent and can tell you that we offer student rates at our recently refurbished gym facility that is just a 5 minute walk from campus! We offer free inductions which are then followed by a free fitness session at the gym so you can even try before you buy. We will be running a £99 offer for the year which will entitle you to unlimited gym use. If you are looking to join classes and the gym, then we offer pay-as-you go monthly and annual student rates. Find out more at; http://www.solent.ac.uk/sport/fitness/student-public-memberships.aspx If you have any questions, feel free to message the Sport Solent Facebook page and I will get back to you. =)
Alex M. replied:
Both the Gym and Pure Gym are 24/7, they're pretty much identical in terms of equipment although I found Pure Gym tends to be less busy and is bigger but is a further walk from halls compared to "The Gym" both will put on fresher deals for £10 a month come closer to the time, I found "The Gym" tends to be too busy during peak so if you can put up with the walk then go to Pure Gym
Zoë B. replied:
The Southampton Solent University gym is great and they usually do a great deal for students in September. It's usually £100 for a year!
