Sonshine Learning Center at First Baptist Church in Southern Pines; Little People Loving Learning at United Methodist Church in Southern Pines; Merry Hearts in Aberdeen (I can't think church name--the one with the fountain on US 1. Can anyone help me h ere?) hey all have programs for two year-olds. I suggest putting your name on as many waiting lists as you can, even before you arrive. Once you get here, you can tour and decide. Most schools open enrollment in January for the following year, so getting a spot can be a challenge.
Megan B. replied:
Nadja, I would get on a list ASAP. They probably won't guarantee a spot until they open registration, but you can check with the facility. Typically families who already have a child enrolled will get first priority, and then they open it up to newco mers. Layla, check out Sandhills Children's Center. It is a fantastic facility, but the wait list is long! As an aside, you may want to check out Mothers of Moore on meetup.com It is a GREAT way to meet other moms/ kids in the area. It is very casual, comfortable and fun. They offer playgroups based on age, monthly meetings for moms (childcare provided,) and moms' night out activities. Lots of other great "stuff." It is how I met most of my friends when I moved here.

My younger son attended Sandhills academy of Creative Learning at Sandhills Gymnastics for preschool. They did gymnastics every day and has a great play based environment. My older son did 1 st and 2 nd grade and my younger son did kindergarten at Southern Pines Primary and we had the best experience.

A good real estate agent should be able to answer most of those questions. Whispering Pines has lots of new developments that are full of young families and that puts you eligible for Farm Life school which is excellent. And here's a shameless plug for my friend Maureen O'Hara as an agent.:)

I just signed my 3 year old up at Bethesda Presbyterian preschool. In Aberdeen. My son just graduated from Aberdeen elem. And now is off to middle school. We just moved here and November and the time we were at Aberdeen elem was great. They are very much like a big family. Ms Dee the admin in the office seems to know every child and they were all very welcoming. Please message me I'm still trying to meet people in the area and with us both having 3 year olds there are tons of parks to take them to play.

Take a look at greatschools.org for some unbiased look at the local schools, both public and private. Consider that a public school will most often require you to reside in a certain location while a private school doesn't. The four private schools I know of around here follow by highest to lowest expense: O'Neal School; SCCS; Episcopal Day School; & St. John Paul Catholic School.

I work with Rhodes & Co. in So. Pines but work all of Moore County.

We adore CyberEd Learning Center for our 3 year old guy- He has thrived in their program. Located near Downtown SoPi off Bennett St. Our daughter had a fabulous year at The Academy of Moore County which is a public charter school across the street from Legacy Lakes Golf Club community off 15501 in Aberdeen. Classes are smaller, have assistants for the teachers k-2 and if you find test scores to be an important measure, they finished 14 th (overall) in the state. Public and diverse population as well. We went through the same issues searching for the best schools for our kids and I wish you the best in your decision process, Welcome to the Pines!
