Are you looking for a psychiatrist or a psychologist? Typically, both is the best, but remember: Psychiatrists prescribe medication and medication used to MANAGE symptoms, not treat the disorder. Psychologists practice therapy, which are training methodologies to change negative patterns of thinking. Almost always, both are necessary for a full recovery that is unlikely to result in relapse.

call your insurance company to see who's in network. If you don' have insurance call your university health center.

I use Inova Behavioral Health Services at the Javier Rd location. [Their site](http://www.inova.org/healthcare-services/behavioral-health/locations.jsp) My doctor goes by Eric (his middle name) and is very realistic and empathetic if you're completely honest with him.

I have a great psychiatrist but he doesn't take insurance and it's $250 a session. But he really did turn my life around in just a couple months. Complete 180. PM me if you're interested. When I called him the first time, he made room to see me the next day.

Best therapist in nova? (Price doesn't matter) Hey everyone, so I have some pretty bad anxiety and a couple of other issues due to a pretty rough home life growing up...

Are you looking for a psychologist and something like talk therapy? Or do you want a psychiatrist? Psychologist is always hard because people are different, and different psychologists mesh well with some and not well with others. You have to figure out in advance what kind therapy you want to go through, then search for one who specializes in that therapy. Then you have to get lucky that they're effective for you. Not easy at all. Psychiatrist without budget concerns is easy: [Dr Evan Jacobson](http://www.capitolpsychiatry.com/about.html). Super expensive, super good.

Liz Schnelzer works out of Ashburn (Currently does online visits due to COVID). Her prices are extremely affordable and she has helped me tremendously through severe anxiety, depression, and other things. I’ve tried many therapists, and she’s the best one I’ve ever been to. She’s kind, uses fantastic CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) techniques, and is just a wonderful person who truly cares. I’m very happy with the folks I’ve seen at Fairfax Mental Health and Wellness. But honestly, they’re paid salary and have fairly full books, so if price is no obstacle, I’d call around for other recommended folks who don’t take insurance, if nobody at that practice can see you.

One thing to ask is that some therapist may not be charging a copay if you need to go through insurance during these COVID times. Might help further.
