Looking for Paris hotel/apt suggestions in the St. Germain neighborhood/near Eiffel Tower Layne Neville, Becky Jo Parks, Maria Clea Annecchiarico Tang, Van Tang, Olivia...
Maria T. replied:
Carlin, very excited for you and the rive gauche is my favorite place to stay in Paris, posh but still somehow bohemian, central, you can walk almost everywhere which I have done many times. The new dessert place we discovered this past summer through a friend that lives there is Patisserie des Reves, this place is heaven and their Paris-Brest is famous even though you can't go wrong with anything there (we have tested almost everything...), they have a few locations around Paris. For macarons, Pierre Herme has grown on me and I like it as much as LaDuree now, either place is a must. From St. Germain you can also walk through the Marais to the Musee Pompidou (it's worth walking to that area even if you are going to the museum as its inside out architecture can be admired from the outside and the area itself is a haven of street characters and, most importantly, the tastiest crepes places... OK, I am officially making myself hungry here...) but near the Pompidou is Mariage Freres, one of the most well known purveyors of tea in the world, if you like tea. They also have fantastic desserts and the Mariage Freres location on rue du Bourg-Tibourg is like stepping back in history. There are other locations, including near you in the 6 eme and in the Carousel du Louvre, but that one is outstanding. BTW, we cannot forget gelato: there is a new gelato place in Paris that has taken the city by storm, it's called Grom, it's an Italian place and there was always a line out front, no matter the time of day. Amorino is also fantastic. I am only writing this because the French, just like the Italians, eat gelato year round. Also, if you like cheese, a place with a long history and amazing selection is Androuet on Rue de Verneuil off of St. Germain. We used to live across the street from it and it was just decadent. I could go on but I am not sure how many days you'll be there. If there is anything particular you like or would like to try, let me know.

Have you stayed on Montmarte before? It's gorgeous, there are plenty of places, the view is spectacular, etc: http://www.perfectlyparis.com/Romantic%20Montmartre.html

Arrondissement 7 is the closest district to the Eiffel Tower. Check this out! http://www.vrbo.com/24193 St. Germain neighborhood is nice too with the Luxembourg Gardens -Arrondissement 6.
Van T. replied:
Too many good cafes in Paris, but Le Deux Magots is nearby Hôtel Verneuil. Also try the new Ralph Lauren restaurant - just celebrated my b-day there last summer!!! Maria Clea Annecchiarico Tang can also tell you the name of the pastry shop we went to - can't remember for the life of me. Finally, any trip to Paris should include a visit LADURÉE - bring me some macarons! Enjoy! http://www.lesdeuxmagots.fr/en/ambiances.php#/ambiances.phphttp://ralphlaurenstgermain.com/en/ http://fabricantdedouceurs.laduree.com/fr_fr/
Hey New Yorkers! Can anyone recommend a hotel in Manhattan?? Don't care on area, but of course it's over the holidays and the hotel rates are sky high...so I would...

Kimpton Hotels are great.... the Waldorf is fun, I adore Art Deco. Use hotels.com, I get bangin' rates and I book every few months!

Holiday Inn in Chinatown/Soho (it's not very big, but heard they have great deals). Also, I HIGHLY suggest looking into airbnb.com and renting an apartment.
Meredith F. replied:
You should try Jetsetter.com, sometimes they have really great deals on nice hotels
Looking at hotels and @Airbnb places in Philadelphia for next week. Any suggestions, my Philly tweeps?

Alternative might be colleges such as Drexel: http://www.drexel.edu/campusservices/eventconference/conferencecenter/summerinternhousingprogram/ which allow professionals attending conferences

check VRBO instead of airbnb. Older service, better rates.
