I have a "95 convertible with 23k miles on original tires.
What do you recommend for economical replacement?

BF Goodrich G-Force work great on my '85

True Wilfred Thibodeau Jr unless the car has the Z07 package in which all 4 tires are the same size.

David; I got set of 4 Nitto NT555 Extremes from Discount Tire Direct in Sept for $602 including shipping. For my 95 convert. Local shop ripped me off charging $175 for mounting and balancing. Have hardly put any miles on them, the seem to ride smooth

The Kuhmos are good if you drive hard and put lots of miles on the car every year, but considering you still have the original tires on the car, I would guess that's not the case. The problem with the Kumhos is that they get hard, very hard, after a couple of years, mine are so hard, I can't wear them out, countless burnouts later and still can't do it. They have no grip now, so they have to go. I have a set of Sumitomo going on the car, I replaced the fronts to pass inspection, but wanted to wear the Kumohs in the rear out. They have lots of grip in the front, I'm interested to see how they work in the rear. My only gripe about the Sumitomos so far is they have no lip to protect the edge of the rim, if you hit the curb you'll mess up your rims. I have heard good things about the nitto tires, I will get those next. If you plan on driving the car as little or as careful as you were before, I suggest sticking with Goodyear or BF Goodrich, they tend to stay soft longer. The size is an issue, less and less manufacturers make the 255 275 285 305 in 17" in the same tire. It might make sense to get a set of rims where you can put 275R17 on all four corners, they seem to be more available. If cooper tire is making the size, it's most likely because the size is hard to get elsewhere. Just my $0.02

While I am a self-proclaimed klutz, I was driving gingerly with two kids in the back seat each time. Have you seen the streets in the formerly flooded parts of the city, lately? My Suzuki Reno vs. the moonscape is an unfair match.
