Moving companies Hi r/NOVA!
I think it is quite likely that we will all be able to agree that not every moving company out there is entirely honest in their dealings -...

"Two Marines Moving" has done three state-to-state moves for me and they have been honest and trustworthy throughout.

Bookstore Movers (search the side bar for this question). Though I dont know if they go all the way to Charleston. That may just be far enough you have to go with a national company

We've used Olympia twice. Their website seems to indicate they'll do long distance moves.
[JK Moving and Storage](https://www.jkmoving.com/) Not the cheapest but very reliable. I've used them twice personally and, on my recommendation, a company I used to work for used them for corporate/office moves.

My Guys Moving and Storage (https://www.myguysmoving.com/) - I’ve used them for several moves over the last 15 years and never had a problem. Even did a long distance - to Raleigh - move a few years ago which included storage and delivery, it went perfectly. You’ll find people with lower hourly rates (although for interstate you’ll be doing weight and mileage, I believe) but My Guys is so efficient the higher hourly rate balances out. I’ll never move without them.

Make sure they come out to see your stuff and that they are an actual company, not a broker.

I'm in the process of researching movers as well and felt like the "big names" felt the most secure, at least with talking/engaging with the few companies we were considering. Surprisingly, a lot of companies didn't even get back to us after we contacted them for price quotes. I was expecting to be inundated with spam and "Have you made a decision yet?" calls and emails.

I'm using a service called Shyft through my employer, but I found it funny that you're moving to Austin from Arlington whereas I'm moving to Arlington from Austin this summer. I hope you enjoy Austin!

If its just you and a 1 bdr apartment of stuff, id recommend Uhaul Crates. Ive used them a couple times for out of state moves and it was super convenient. Pricey, but convenient.

whoever gives a quote without seeing your stuff is a scammer. Stick to reputable name brands
