Do keep in mind that at times, it is CHEAPER to replace appliances with good used ones (including delivery and removal of old appliance) than it is to repair an appliance you already have.
Make sure to look up local used appliance stores. Most larger towns have one. and inquire about prices.
I got a quote over the phone to repair an old dishwasher that stopped working. The appliance repair guy wanted $120 to fix. I ended up finding a dishwasher on craigslist, just a year old, barely used, for $50. Took me 15 minutes to replace and it actually looks and works a whole lot better :)

Kleckner & Sons in Fullerton still does repairs. I haven't needed to use them, but I have family who did and never heard complaints.

If you have a multimeter you can fix just about anything. Dryer is probably a belt or a thermal switch, fridge probably just needs coils in back cleaned, and door seals cleaned.
