Looking for a great home inspector! We are looking to buy a house in a few months, and I'm looking for a recommendation for a really good and thorough home inspector....

Do not use the inspector that your realtor suggests.

We used Kurt Masters in the Sugar Land area and he was excellent. mastershomeinspections@yahoo.com

You can find one through here: http://www.nachi.org/ Ask about thermal imaging if they do it / if its included or extra. It will help find air leaks / lack of insulation / hidden leaks moisture etc.

I highly recommend John Onofrey he handles the Richmond/Sugar Land/Katy area - 281-565-4677 He's also a contributing writer for a lot of Nachi articles, here is a link to his articles for them. [Onofrey](http://www.nachi.org/hhenews.htm)

Give [Danny Drake](http://www.linkedin.com/pub/danny-drake/18/456/b0a) a call--(281) 222-2190. [Here](http://www.trec.state.tx.us/newsandpublic/licenseeLookup/LicenseeDetail.aspx?inType=10&id=ng&inLicno=5322&txtSearch=5322) is his TREC licensee information. He charges $325 for the inspection. You're going to want termite/WDI inspection as well, so you may as well get both the home and termite inspections done at the same time. Well, you're in luck! Danny works with a gentleman named Larry Ballard (TPCL # 6075), who owns [Ballard Pest Control](http://www.ballardspest.com/). Larry charges $85 for termite/WDI inspection. My wife and I have used Danny and Larry for multiple home inspections--including two purchases--since 2009. Danny is very thorough and takes pictures of any issues he finds. With photographic proof of issues that need to be addressed, sellers will have a hard time squirming their way out of making needed repairs. Both Danny and Larry have steered us clear of buying several houses, one of which had extensive exterior and interior termite damage. Danny actually got a scumbag listing agent's realtor's license stripped because she lied about the termite damage on a house my wife and I otherwise would have purchased. You should ask him about that one--I doubt he'll ever forget. I'll tell you now, from Danny's and Larry's advice: Do not buy a house unless it's brick and Hardie siding only! Unless you're okay with redoing all the siding, forget OSB, wood, and vinyl siding. Stick to brick and Hardie plank.

Chuck Evans at HomeCert. He did my phased new construction inspections earlier this year and couldn't be happier. Far more impressed with him than I was a full blown engineering firm I hired on the last house. Check out the sample reports on his site. We did the pre-Sheetrock and pre-close.
