In my experience, Tricare has never covered 100% at the eye doctor. That being said, I really like Dr. Shaffer at DuPont Family Vision Clinic. They are so friendly and patient there and out of pocket was relatively minimal. http://www.dupontfamilyvision.com/
Amy G. replied:
We go to Dupont Family Vision, Dr. Schaffer is really good. My daughter and I both go there, and she started going there when she was 3.
I'm looking for a good eye doctor near Tacoma/Lakewood for Sam. Any ideas?
Tabitha B. replied:
Dr. Kim582-9089 Tell them I sent you, they've been waiting to hear from you. I talked to them about you & Sam last time I was in. Angel loves the free fro-yo card they give out after his eye exam.
Susan K. replied:
Call Tim at Lakewood Eye Clinic. They have been so helpful with our students. 253-582-0760
Carrie C. replied:
I've been going to Bridgeport Vision my entire life. Dr. Williams is fabulous. Right on Bridgeport in lakewood by the skate park.
Amber W. replied:
The best pediatrician is in Centralia\Rochester we travle all the way out there just to see Dr. Aaron Dalan he is awesome and my boys love him:-)
Jennifer J. replied:
My daughter, Hannah, has had eye glasses since she was 3. We go to Dr Peter Shelley at Mary Bridge in downtown Tacoma. He is absolutely amazing and highly sought after. He is pediatric only!
Darlene R. replied:
I agree with Jennifer. Dr. Peter Shelley. Clayton has been seeing him since he was 4 years old. He is amazing eye doctor. He also has an office in Federal Way.
Gerry J. replied:
PS I'd agree with Dr. Shelley
Tabitha B. replied:
Their website lists insurance they accept, also says to call if you don't see yours. http://www.rainierfamilyeyecare.com/insurance.html
Tabitha B. replied:
Did you try ours? She's really nice. Rainier Family Eyecare next to Black Bear Yogurt by your house.
Hi there, looking for Eye Exam recommendations. I am overdue and a little frustrated with the limitations of my current Eye doctor. Thanks in advance!
Marissa L. replied:
TruVision was great for me, plus they have the technology to look at the health of your eye without having to dilate. https://local.lenscrafters.com/eyedoctors/wa/tacoma/4502-s-steele-st.html
Jana F. replied:
Family Eyecare Associates out near TCC has been good for us. They take our school insurance. https://familyeyecare2020.net/?redirect_one_last_time=1

Franciscan Eye Care. I know all three doctors and they are great.
Dear Tacoma friends,
I am looking for an eye doctor. Do you have any recommendations?
Katie R. replied:
Vision Care in UP across from UPPC is GREAT!! Love them.
Alissa U. replied:
Dr Barry Huse by guitar center. We've been going to him for 5 years. He is really thorough and kind.
Brendan F. replied:
Dr. Deem (Andrew Andrew Deem's dad is also still working, and he's great
Heidi S. replied:
Dr. Nathan Gorham at Family Vision in the Proctor District. He's the only doctor that ever recommended a prism, and it makes a HUGE difference for me. And our families happen to go back 50 years or so.:) He's the best, and the staff are super nice and will always remember your name. Good frame selection, too, if you're looking for glasses.
Heidi S. replied:
Then get your prescription and a pair at the doctor, and then go to coastal.com and get a spare for free!
Kari H. replied:
Dr. Shelby D Robinson at Cascade Pacific Eyecare. Ask for me when you schedule and I will make sure you get the time you need ASAP! It's a little further away (72 nd and Portland) but we take almost all insurances and we will treat you right! If no insu...See More
Is there an eye doctor/optometrist on the island or in West Seattle or Tacoma that people like? Not the specialist kind of eye doctor - the one who does glasses...
Cheryl R. replied:
I've gone to Aaron P. Weingeist (MD / Opthomologist) in West Seattle for several years. LOVE him, and the staff there. They also have an eyeglass shop downstairs on the main level, who have plenty of Optometrists on staff for eyeglasses Rx, new frames, etc.. It's right next door to Staples in Westwood Village off Barton/Trenton.
Doug P. replied:
Dr. Willems at 20/20 by Thriftway. Been seeing him for years and I like him.
I'm looking for an eye doctor in the Tacoma area. Anyone have a strong opinion?
Brett M. replied:
Yes, we highly recommend Dr. Clark Deem, he's great!
Mike H. replied:
Dr. Deem's office never returns my phone calls when I try to make appointments. I have also tried making them through the web site, to no avail. It took a lot of effort the previous time I got an appointment, but the last time, I never heard back, or got to talk to a real person when calling in to make an appointment.
Lynn M. replied:
Dr Deem is excellent, he is also very busy. Dr Geissler is in the same office, has available appointments, and is also very good.
Mike H. replied:
I couldn't get an appointment with Dr. Geissler either. I wanted to go back, but multiple calls, and messages on their website should have gotten a response.
Ok hive mind! I hate the eye doctor WAY more than the dentist and it is about time I get my eyes checked. Is there anyone out there that you recommend? Preferably...
Kjersten K. replied:
Dr. Chaos (either one, there's two, husband and wife) at Suburban Opticians in UP. Suburban Opticians is expensive though. But I have also been pleased with the eye docs at Costco and their eye exams and glasses are way less expensive than other places
