If you are an fsu student you can get free counseling for the fsu counseling center. The counselors there are masters and PhD students from the psychology dept. so they probably won't be able to provide long term car, but they can help you out while you look for a more permanent therapist and might even be able to refer you elsewhere...

I was also going to suggest the counseling center if you were a student, but I'm glad you recognize your need for help and you are taking the steps necessary to get it. Good luck. =)

FSU's Center for Couple and Family Therapy is good. Don't let the name fool you - they provide mental health services to individuals, and treat most presenting problems. All the therapists have a Master's degree, and are actively working towards a PhD and full licensure. They are not limited to FSU students, and operate on a sliding fee scale. They have flexible hours, including evenings. They're located at 540 West Jefferson St, and can be reached at 850-644-1588. Usually they can schedule an intake within 24 hours of a call.

I think references are a great idea. Also, try a couple out with initial visits. See how you relate to the therapist. Different therapist have experience in different issues. I highly recommend Linda M. Smith. She keeps up to date on the latest therapies and tools/techniques. Linda M. Smith, PHD 1407 M D Ln Suite A Tallahassee, FL 32308 (850) 877-0635

I go to Dr. Stephen Wright, he's located out on Capital Circle NE near that road's intersection with Centerville. He is the 3 rd therapist I've had in town, as the first two weren't really a good fit. My major issues are anxiety and ADHD. He happens to have a particular interest in ADHD, which I did not know when I started seeing him. He's been fantastic for me and I look forward to every visit.

Eman Moustafa is fantastic. I can't say enough good things about her. She's young, will work with you on a sliding scale if you are in dire need, and uses multiple approaches that help you develop new coping skills/etc--not just talk-therapy. Working with her changed my entire life, seriously.

Hmm Interesting. I don't understand why this is a kick back. A kickback would imply that I have power or control over a lucrative contract or can influence an outcome and will show u favor if you give me money "under the table". When I work at a massage business or spa, that business receives a flat fee or a split from the massage. When they send me an outcall it's the same principle, right? They still deserve compensation. And it doesn't happen all the time, mostly with just 1-2 places I work with, but if someone asks for a fee, I consider it a professional courtesy. So when or how does it become a kickback? I'm a massage business www.STXMassageToGo.com doing business with another massage business. And Lmts here are independent contractors so we are self employed. Liz: doctors don't call it a kickback but they do, in some cases, receive "consulting" fees for prescribing certain drugs or treatment plans. I heard a "Ted talk" about this practice. There is a movement underway wanting to make it transparent and/or illegal for doctors to not disclose who they receive fees from. Real estate agents receive referrals (usually 20 percent of sale) from other real estate agents, and relocation businesses get fees for referring people. And it's not unusual for a concierge to recommend certain restaurants or activities in exchange for "tip", fee or favors from those business owners when they make reservations for you. Taxi drivers and tour operators take people to certain bars/restaurants/activities and get paid from the owner for sending them their way. I've taken lots of ethics (law, real estate, yoga and massage) classes and not seeing where this practice of paying/receiving fees would be unethical. Would be interesting to hear from someone who is well versed in ethics, anyone?
Della M. replied:
Sandra Sanford, referral fees are kickbacks, and considered patient brokering, and illegal according to your FL MT legislature.
I happily pay, and receive, referral fees with my outcall business www.STXMassageToGo.com Whether it's an in-office or outcall, when someone books or refers me for a massage, I pay a flat fee or percentage to their business. And I market towards and encourage people to think of me when they have outcalls. If they refer an outcall to me, I pay $20-25 for the first visit only. There are Lmts here on island who don't do outcalls anymore or we get super busy, or they don't have someone on staff to cover and I love when they send clients to me. And because outcalls pay more than office visits (and usually tip too), a referral fee is small price to pay. And it's a great way to build regular outcall clients, which absolutely saved me last summer during off-season. I pay other therapists as well if they refer me to a new client, regular, or need assistance w a couples massage. And Therapists pay me if I refer a client to them. It works both ways and everyone benefits! I DONT pay realtors/short-term rental managers/hotel concierges/friends a fee, but I like to send them little thank you gift when they send clients my way. As an independent contractor and a business owner, referral fees are part of good business, developing strong working relationships and keeping the good energy flowing!
Anyone have any recommendations for help with an infant feeding(from a bottle)? Is there a type of therapist that we would seek out? This is getting bad...
Vicky and Mollie have an amazing breast feeding group Mondays at 1230 behind Capital Regional at Breast Center. They can see about the tongue tie too
Olivia C. replied:
Teresa at Shands said that she needed it corrected, but the ARNP felt it was fine because she was eating and gaining weight. We've had lots of trouble with nursing since we've been home though and our LC here said she has a severe tongue tie and a lip tie. We are going to Tallahassee to meet with Dr. Kays on Monday and then to a pediatric dentist in Jacksonville area to have it corrected with a laser. Apparently the ENT's in our area only snip them and don't have very good track records, so our LC referred us to a dentist she trusts in Jacksonville. Was his snipped or lasered?
Chelsy R. replied:
Olivia, Teresa was the one who advocated for us at Shands as well! Dr. Burchfield is who did his and be just snipped it. They mentioned you def want it lasered as you get older due to scarring but as an itty bitty, snipping is sufficient. Teresa mentioned a great doctor in Middleburg that uses laser to correct it! We actually live in Tallahassee! We should meet up sometime when you come to clinic! I hope you guys have safe travels!
Olivia C. replied:
Dr. Myers! That is who we are seeing in middleburg!! I'm glad Teresa recommended him as well. I'd loves to get our special cuties together next time we go to clinic! By then they should both be old enough to be around other babes!

Jennifer, I'm not nursing at all. Straight pumping and bottle feeding. We've tried Avent, Avent Naturals, Evenflo, Tommee Tippee and now Dr Browns. Both the Avent Naturals and the Tommee Tippees are supposed to be close to a natural latch but since we only latched for 2 days, I'm afraid that's not the problem.
Olivia C. replied:
We tried 9 different bottles (all the ones you mentioned and then some) with Makenna before discovering one that worked. Tommee Tippee is good, but even the slow flow was too fast for her. The "MAM" bottles (stage 1) worked the best for her. Also found that the milk has to be very warm. The NICU would just stick it in a cup of water for a few minutes, but we found she hated this. If it is even slightly chilled she will cough and spit it out.

If you're an FSU student the counseling center has free counseling sessions included as part of student fees. I highly recommend them. If you're not a student, then I'd recommend you find a therapist who specializes in what you need help with. Heres a link to psychology today that you can use to find a therapist. You can filter via your health insurance, issue you're going through and even if they'll meet with you online. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists?utm_source=PT_Psych_Today&utm_medium=House_Link&utm_campaign=PT_TopNavF_Therapist

I have tried calling a handful of therapists and have not had any calls back. I have been told by doctors in town that Tallahassee does not have a good amount of good therapists or psychologists. They are here but hard to get an appointment. That being said please keep looking, it is worth it and let me know when you get ahold of one!

I’ve seen Dr. St. Hillier and Dr. Kristen Schmidt for CBT with DBT, both are fantastic options. I think they take blue cross but my insurance never covers psych stuff so I usually pay out of pocket. Both are worth the cost. I wouldn’t go to anyone else in town. If you’re a dude looking for someone and want a male therapist pm me and I’ll ask my friend about the one her husband sees. If you’re looking for a psychiatrist to manage meds, it’s about a six month wait. You’re better off getting in with a GP like patients first or Tallahassee primary care associates.

I don't have a good recommendation but I can say to stay away from Apallachee Center and their services in general. Yea they do fine but it's such a hassel to get services started through them and I never found a therapist or anyone through them that actually seemed to care and do what needed to be done. Ultimately I stopped receiving services and got better on my own. Hopefully someone else has a good suggestion but I'd stay away from these guys, lots of people have similar issues

I am shopping for a counselor as well. However, if you are looking for a good psychiatrist that accepts CHP, I am a patient of Dr. Tommy Swiney D.O. and I highly recommend him. He only works with CHP clients. I have seen him for over five years now, and he's the best psychiatrist I have ever had. And, yeah, I have had a few. :)

[Enso Psych Group](http://ensopsych.com) has been great. The one male therapist is so chill and welcoming. The female therapists are great as well. It felt safe there from the first appointment. Since college, I’ve searched for a good therapist: FSU, Appalachee Center (awful), several folks doing a solo gig, hospital connected resources. Over a year, I’ve made more progress than in 15 years of searching for a good fit. Idk if they’re taking new clients, but they’ve been great and take a wide range of insurance plans.
